CO2 is an explosive
Some FREAKING IDIOT in the gestapo #2 organization (homeland security) has declared CO2 an explosive. Can someone please explain this to me? I didn't know CO2 could burn.

All I can figure is that if they are talking about compressed CO2 (as with any compressed gas) there is a danger of an explossion due to a cylender failing. 0 -

Any gas that is contained can "rapidly depressurize" - basically explode. Increase in heat, decrease in ambient pressure, both. Boyles Law - not just a good idea, its a law. 0 -
At this rate it won't be long before any "compressed gas" will be labeled an explosive. It seems to me that aerosol cans of hair spray, starting fluid, carb cleaner, WD40, and paint are all more explosive than compressed CO2.

c02 is NOT explosive. it cant ignite. it is inert.
but the object that it can be compessed into can explode due to pressure, but c02 itself cant.
thus, the OBJECT its put into can explode due to pressure, not the c02.
for someone to claim c02 is explosive might as well go and outlaw air while their at it.
i mean, if you overpressurize a tire, it will explode too.

I would like to see a link on this since the Department of Transportation is responsible for classifying hazardous materials. They have already classed carbon dioxide cylinders as a division 2.2 nonflammable gas.0 -
The pressure in a c02 in a cylinder @ 70 degrees is 850 psi +/- a few.We in the fire prot. biz call it high pressure c02.Thats why when you see a hi press cyl there wont be a press gauge on it.Its contents are verified by weight.If there was 10#s or 100, The press would be the same. 0 -

Talking about throwing things in a fire and watching them go boom reminds me of what blows up better than an aerosol can. Canned food such as Cambells Soup, DelMonte, or Green Giant makes one big pressure explosion. It's a bigger explosion than Right Guard. 0 -
