Because of the diversity on this board, I'm posing a what I consider to be an ethics question. In construction, normal referrals happen all the time, lots of networking. Do you think its ethical to demand a percent of a job you refer someone to? Finders fee? or a continual fee of all jobs, from the same referral client. Personally Ive never asked for a fee of any kind for referrals. I did work for a company once who paid me a percent of all jobs I brought in as sales. where do these two worlds meet.

    Car dealers pay a bird dog fee if you bring a new customer.

    I have no idea what is customary in your business.

    I have always wondered about Dr.s referral.

    Some business call them "kick-backs".

    In my welding field, we do small job trades with all kinds of contractors as a favor depending on the size of the job. Works great too! If we need something like say a new transmission for the work truck, well the transmission guy down the street we have been sending work his way and have done a tone of side jobs for him for fee.

    Now we collect-[:D] Dr's, Dentists, plumbers, veterinarians, car mechanics, painters, you name it! Mind you it's not always free, but dang close to it and you get your name out as well.

    A good referral can go a long way down the road if you know what I mean.
