I'm not sure I agree with the war in Iraq, mainly because those in charge can't seem to keep their story straight, as to exactly what we're doing there. However, my doubts don't extend to our soldiers. I have friends and relatives either there or who have been. Whatever else I might question, I have neither the desire nor the authority to find fault with them. Nor will I suggest that those fallen might have died in vain.
That's for no one but them to say.0 -

At some point during the long and drawn out Vietnam War, a great many military personnel stopped wearing their uniform for the far left Anti-Americans forever. Most of them might well tell you they wore it from that day forward for those who supported their cause, only. These warriors had far more respect for Charlie and the NVA than the Hanoi Jane Anti-War protesters, and they will continue to carry that with them to their graves.
The one thing that Americans need to remember about this Iraq War is to help ensure that our warriors feel they have met their objectives before we bring them home. However, the military is not a democracy where voting is concerned, and sometimes they have no one to protect them other than American citizens in the polling booth to say when enough is enough.
How many of them feel that their objectives were met when they won the first war there, before capturing Saddam, I do not know. How many of them feel that we need to stay there while serving in various ways, I do not know either. I do know that I have more respect for the warriors' opinions on this matter, than I have for any one civilian in Washington, or anywhere else for that matter, who feels what "might" be the end result if we leave too early. That's why we can use our first class transportation by air and sea if necessary.
P.S. What's important to remember about the above described mindset is that American Warriors never die in vain.0 -

I only mentioned the concept of "dying in vain" because it might seem to some that, by doubting the mission, I might consider those who die performing it to have wasted their lives. Nothing could be further from the truth, and I agree with you wholeheartedly.
I have a tendency to bring up the anticipated arguments of those who might disagree with me, so as to reply in advance and, hopefully, save them the trouble of having to figure out where I stand. So far my efforts have gone unappreciated.... [:D]

I simply responded to your post with my personal knowledge, and left out my opinion that American warriors, in their minds, never die in vain for their voluntary service to their country, until I edited my post. However, if these men and women begin to complain that they might be dying in vain, then we are too late in bringing them home; mind you I am not talking about the 10 percenters that make good Anti-War protesters for the Anti-American cause. 0 -
