Painting Rifle

i am going to do a camo vietnam style/tiger stripe pattern on my 10/22, i need help, can anyone sugest a specific paint to do this with, also i would greatly appreciate any techniques or instructions on how to do this, thanks alot

    Be careful asking questions about guns on this board. The last time I did ,I was made to feel like the biggest idiot on the web(WOW thread).I went local with my (remedial)questions an got some real good advice.I would recommend you do the same.

    good prep is key, i've never done a pattern but i've painted a few guns in my time (1200 degree BBQ grill black paint).

    Consider a base coat of something good in black and then using an airbrush and template to do the stripes...

    I've used testors Model paint on several of my SKS's with very good results. I've done a Snow/Tiger, a semi-Woodland, and a Desert/Tiger that I just drew with a Q-tip dipped in the bottle of paint. Go easy at first, and don't get too much on the "brush", or it will lump up and become a semi-textured finish. The paint comes in a variety of flat colors suitable for camo. If you screw up and get it on something metal you didn't want to paint, spray with MPro-7 and it comes right off.
    Check out your local Army/Navy store and see if they've got some cammies in the pattern you want, then just draw it on your gun.

    I too did the flat black BBQ paint on my French MAS 36. Came out awesome. I degreased all the metal with rubbing alcohol first. Did about 3 coats for good measure.

    I'd recommend covering the whole thing in Bond-O, then sanding it down, then using a good primer and then Behr latex paint.

    But, that's just me.
