Boycott The NFL...
It was revealed today that the NFL decided not to allow a advertisement from the Border Patrol during the Super Bowl. The Homeland Security Department, which is in charge of the Border Partol, has been running television commercials and print ads for the CIA, Coast Guard and Border Patrol in an effort to announce they are hiring and recruiting. The NFL released a statement saying "We didnt feel it was appropriate to interject the debate over illegal immigration into the Super Bowl".

The NFL is developing a Latin American market, thus anything that could possibly be offensive to that market group would be counter productive to that effort and not allowed. Professional sports is big business, and it's a sales job. 0 -
The Border Patrol is part of the American government and in charge of carrying out our laws as directed by the congress and citizens of America. If the NFL has a problem with that they should come out and say it. Actually, they did. That is the problem. Why doesnt the NFL just say "due to the fact that we like to make money, we dont want to uphold the law and wishes of the majority of American citizens and we would like to trample on the soveirgnty of America" 0 -
OK, put the jobs in the help wanted ads in newspapers and magazines. Shouldn't be no ads in a football game anyway. Say, how about running all the days ads in a 2 hour period back to back. Say from 3am til 5 AM [:D] 0 -
Also the Super Bowl is broadcast world wide! Am very much against illegal immigration but can also see not braodcasting an ad for the boarder patrol in another country.

The fans themselves would never boycott anything to do with football and so the suits in charge, knowing that, can pretty much get away with anything they like - completely unscathed.
On the plus side, however, the border patrol saved millions, especially since most of the Super Bowl ads sucked badly and many TV fans would have been already lit-up from the partying or busy tapping a kidney when it aired.[:0][:D][:D]0 -

Our tax dollars go towards that advertising. I think the NFL did us tax payers a favor by not takeing our money!0 -

Probly not. I think there would be better ways of advertising for alot less money.

Seriously, given what Super Bowl Sunday is all about to many folks - lots of partying and lots of drinking and lots of fun - I'm guessing that it wasn't the border patrol's best shot at hitting their target audience with an actual and "sobering" message.
Most people - period - go a bit brain dead on SB Sunday and consequently don't remember the majority of the Super Bowl commercials anyway.
I can't remeber ever seeing any recruitment ads from the Army, Navy, etc. either in recent Super Bowls. They might have determined it was a waste of money. I don't know.
To specifically answer your question, I don't think that, if the ad were paid for by the Minutemen themselves, it would be a wise choice to air it on SB Sunday simply because it's throwing away millions on a captive audience's overall lack of focus and attention. IMHO, SB Sunday ads are nowadays all about laughs and pee breaks - not serious messages or public service announcements.0 -

My point exactly. I can honestly say that I don't remember seeing it so it begs the question how many people actually do remember even seeing it or worse, what it was about?

I don't have satellite TV reception and live close to the Mexican border. I went thru the channels and there was no English Superbowl broadcast but there was two Mexican stations with it broadcast in Spanish.0
