BINGO And as such the Pope and other Cleric have no authority over followers. They are there for guidance not as rulers, the role they ( the church leadership) have taken on their OWN authority. Much of what the church leadership does is to control the followers not guide them.

There ya go. Actually, there is Biblical substance behind Church discipline of wayward members. It IS a Biblical concept. However, it doesn't just come from the Pastor.

The pope is just a man. The people are the church.

    Oooooh, bad timing.
With the fastest-growing religion in the world (Islam) on the warpath world-wide, the Roman Catholic Church wants to lay claim to being the ONLY true Christians?

Hey, Mr. Pope, sir? Umm...They still remember who was behind the Crusades, man...

Ya sure ya want to go this alone?

    'kay.

I find it entertaining to read the thoughts of the fundamentalist Christian cultists who pound their Bibles while telling us that anyone elses verion of Christianity is incorrect(they really do remind me of the whacked out Shiite crazies screaming and thumping their Korans). I think we have our own version of Al Quida crazies in any whacked out lunatic Baptist Church right here in our country. You really don't have to go to Iraq to find religious lunatics.....we have them right here quoting their favorite Bible passage in the same way as the Al Quida crazies quote their Korans.

You know the Pope saying his version of religion is better than your version sounds about the same as some lunatic fundamentalist preacher saying his version of Christianity is better than the lunatic fundamentalist Baptist preacher down the street or the lunatic fundamentalist Muslim in his mosque in Iraq. When I have observed those Shiite nutcases pounding their breasts and raising their hands in crazed and frenzied worship I really am reminded of the average Baptist Church on any Sunday in the United States.

So if the Pope wants to say his religion works better who cares? Every true believer whether he is a good Christian, or a whacked out fundaChristacultist or a Muslim or Hindu draws strength and comfort from their beliefs. I'm fairly sure though that not too many fundaChristocultists have spent much time reading the sacred and Holy Koran...otherwise they might be "born again" as Muslims ready to join Al Quida.

I remember a Jewish guy I worked with and he told me that a lot of Jewish people laughed at the "born again" Christians because as Jews their faith in God had never died. Jews took their beliefs from the Bible and its words....they didn't reduce themselves to Jesus cult worship......kinda makes you wonder doesn't it? But for all the fundaChristocultists if it works for you keep at it...just try not to foist your beliefs on some lunatic Muslim...he might kill you.[}:)]Beach

We can't even read the same post here and all agree on what it said. How would anyone expect everyone to agree on what a book the size of the bible says? Westboro Baptist Church proves that!

Just try to act like a good, moral person whether you believe in God, Jesus or some other higher power or not. Leave personal beliefs to the person.[;)]

Danny, You are 100% correct. As long as a religion can give a person solace in their sorrow and hope in their despair it can't be all bad. I guess I still question some of those of the Wicken persuasion but few others[;)]Beach

How about a Druid, like myself?? Although I do feel that I've been slightly corrupted by the Amish I've hung out with for so many years (at least they don't try to tell me how to live)

Bob, Druids are ok in my book. Their knowledge of the stars is at least equal to the knowledge of medicine that Arabs possessed while we Christians were conducting religious ceremonies like the Salem witch trials(fundaChristacultists) and the Spanish Inquisition(da Pope)! Druids who volunteer to let my young high power shooters use their Druid M1 Garands at the National Matches are really OK in my book. And many thanks for the offer of your M1(will contact you on separate email on that one).Mike.

While I'll agree that was wrong, I can only rember one, maybe there was more, did they go into an abortion clinic full of people, or a capital building in the state of the abortion clinic full of people, and blow themselves up, or a school, or restruant, or get on a bus in the state were the abortion clinic was, and blow themselves up killing innocents?

    Checked Ireland lately ?

It's not the common peoples of ANY religion that bother me, it's the hardcore fundamentalests of ALL religions I worry about.

I am not a religous person. However, my thinking goes thusly:

I can see the basis for the Great Schism where the Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches split. Where should the seat of the Church be, who should be Pope, etc., in no way denies the belief in Christ as savior. Both churches recognize this too; you may take communion at either church- but not in a protestant church.

Protestantism started with Luther, who did not want to create a new church per se, but rather reform some very real corruptions he saw in the Catholic Church. Selling indulgences, self flagellation, etc. Most of these have long since been reformed so the need for Protestantism is nill. Henry the VIII wanted a younger, more fertile wife for god's sake. Not very pious there. And so it goes with the other branches; escaping persecution, difference of opinion, etc.

This wouldn't bother me (and it doesn't really- we're talking theoretical here) if it weren't for the fact that Jesus selected his replacement in Peter to run his new Church, and the line of Popes has proceeded since. Ergo if you believe in Christ, you are either a member of his Church or you aren't- or possibly a member of an Orthodox church.

In other words, I have a number of logical hangups with religion in general, and would be the first to admit I am a poor catholic. But if you are going to be a member of the Christian faith, I don't see any other true options without denying worshiping Christ in his church.

I have also met a lot of folks who say they are non- denominational. 90% of the time this means, "Christian but I don't like Catholicism". This bugs me.

You all have a good day.

From the documentary i watched on HBO, i think it was called Right to Life. One guy set fire to a clinic, after hours. This other guy, ran up with a shotgun, killed the abortion doctor, and wounded the nurse riding with him. I think there was three other attacks pointed out on the show. there are religious nuts in any religion. None of them can be trusted.

I'm Roman Catholic. I don't consider myself a good one but I am Catholic. I'm still working on the basics, like the Ten Commandments, so I will leave the debate to the pope and all of you holy people.
