Whip out one of your cards from your wallet, call customer service on the back, and ask about how you'd get a merchant account... If needed, buy the terminal/card reader on fleabay or whatever, but set it up for sure thru an acutal CC company.

If your bank does credit cards, they can also help you set up an account.

go with someone reputable and get your deal in writing .make sure you know all the fees that are involved with your deal and have you rep show you in writing before you sign the contract .

you can inquire at you local bank as i did . they can set you up with a merchant accout .when you get a rep to visit, tell them you have your own machine and need the services only .

id buy an machine from ebay but be wary of the services offered .if your account fell into the wrong hands think of the problems you'll have .

I got mine from Fleabay and got a free wireless terminal. There are more merchant bank reps competing on there so the prices are better.

Don't fall for the "low fees" on ebay. Your absolute cheapest place will be Sam's Club. I did a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE amount of research on this about a year ago. When you talk to the people on ebay, or anywhere else, just ask "Can you beat Sam's Club on the price?"

IF they are honest, they'll just say no. Most of them will say "No, but we have yadda yadda yadda......" (which is the same crap!)

Sam's has been great for me so far. No problems at all. Don't rent a machine, you can buy a wired one for less than $200, a wireless one (Nurit) will be about $800 via Ebay. I forget the seller's name, but he is in FL, or GA, I think. He had the best prices, by far.

When you take credit cards, just simply post a sign saying "ID Required when using a credit card". That keeps the scumbags with stolen cards away. In a year, I've had ONE card that wasn't kosher.

For security reasons, I print in red letters where the signature is required: ASK FOR PHOTO ID.

    No problems at all.

I really REALLY like the debit part of that deal....NO MORE CHECKS!!!

I have only been taking in checks from regular customers for a while now...when people ask if I take checks....NO, but I do take debit cards.

Plus...every small dealer adds a fee for using a credit card to buy a gun (for a reason.) The "percentage" is usually 3%...not only because the credit card companies take money out of the transaction. Also because there is a monthy fee for having to deal with credit cards and the money isn't available instantly....usually it takes the next day or so.

You should listen to what the guys have all said previously. It is a handy little thing to have....but also a pain. We have to check on the account every morning to be certain there wasn't any "weirdness" and that our balance is what it should be.

Sams club is good. Your bank is good. Online is questionable, be very careful or better yet avoid.
