First on I found was a bolt action .22. I found it next to the remains of the person who's skull had been found by a man's dog. It scared him, (the man not the dog), so bad he told me about it later so I had him go back and show me where the skull was at. It was a human skull so we searched the area and found the rest of the male subject. Apparent suicide, spent casing still in the chamber.

The next one I found was a Chipmunk .22 single shot. I was hunting with my son and kept noticing that he was lagging behind. I told him to keep up or he would get lost. Finally, after a while I asked him what he was doing. He told me, "I'm looking for my rifle". This was the first time I had let him carry a gun while we were hunting. He was maybe 4 or 5 at the time. Now, get this, we hunt on about 1000 acres of land. Mostly woods. I'm not much of an outdoorsman so retracing our exact steps was impossible. I had no idea when or where he had put it down. He told me he had to pee so he leaned his rifle against a tree and walked away from it. To make a long story short I found it. I still don't know how. I razzed him perty good about leaving his rifle against a tree. I made him feel perty bad I guess. I got to feeling guilty about it later as I know he felt bad enough so I told him that it was my fault for not putting a sling on it so he could sling it over his shoulder. That made him feel better and was partially true. Gosh, that seems so long ago, he's twenty one now and in the Navy. My how time flies.

I used to work at a facility that burned trash to produce steam to operate a tire mfg plant. While working there I found lots of interesting stuff in the trash. An Illegal sawed off single shot shotgun, (that BTW I no longer have). Lots of old military stuff. Best find was a pair of HUGE WW-2 Japanese Naval binoculars.
I also found my current carry Buck 112 knife on the ground at a motorcycle rally.

I too found a wallet back a few years ago. Had quite a bit of cash and lots of credit cards. Found a phone number and called the guy. He came to my office and picked it up. He was one happy guy, offered me a reward, I declined and just told him to pass on the favor if he ever gets the opportunity!

My wife and I just bought a house, and above the clothes bar in the front closet I found a 20-guage shell. I went racing through the rest of the house and the attic hoping to find the shotgun to go with the shell. No dice, but my wife did find a nice like-new machete on a shelf for me. [:)]

About 45 yrs ago while hunting in a woods behind our house, I found a single shot 12 ga. that had the stock and barrel cut down. Overall length was less than 2 feet. I thought it was "neat" and fired it a couple of times...terrible recoil.
Later on I surrendered it to my Dad, who called his friend, the chief of police. He sent a LEO over and that was the last I ever saw or heard of it.

During WW 2 My mothers father and a friend stole some big box full of guns from a German transittrain that stopped to refill water...and dug it down in some swamp.
However they forgot exactly where...But i know between what 2 stations at least.Could be a lot of nice toys out there.

Who has stumbled on a gun while in woods?

Does a spear gun in a kelp forest count? One time found complete fishing gear for two plus some boat parts at the surf line at North Bird Rock Ca. Several bombs at about 160 to 180 feet of water at San Clemente Island. Left the bombs took the abalone.

I found a S.A.W. new in the crate in a police truck they turned in for maintenance once.

That's the best find I found.... Nothing in the woods.

Up at the wife's family place.
it was a Browning A-bolt 30-06 with a NICE leopold scope on it. (he11 the scope was worth more than the rifle.)
through there I could access about 20000 acres of land locked blm land.

It turned out to be one of the nieghbors rifle he also had access to the blm land. I had it for a yr. The next hunting season he finally came asking if we might have run acrossed it. At first I wanted to say NO. but i just couldn't do it. he had the serial number. so the next time i was out there i dropped it buy his place.

after finding out that it had an owner it never felt the same.

I lost my cigarette lighter walking out of Shawnee National Forest after a day of bowhunting. I found it the following year sunbleached. It was like winning the lotto. I just was walking through the woods scouting, and there she was! Still worked too!
