Best Zombie Movies?
I never gave much thought about Zombie movies until I noticed all the Zombie threads in this Forum. To me a Zombie was a drug burned out Ocean Beach California hippie. When I went to the local electronics store yesterday I noticed a two pack of Zombie movies and bought them. One is titled " Dawn of the Dead" and the other "Land of the Dead". They were better than I expected and I wonder which Zombie movies are considered the best.

The original Dawn of the Dead, the remake of Dawn of the Dead, and Night of the Comet 0 -
Dawn of the Dead made in 2004 and Night of the Living Dead 1990, both remakes of George Ramero films who also did Land of the Dead.
Though not zombies the infected in 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later are often discribed as such and both movies are good.
Currently filming is AUTUMN which should be good.

-I liked Dawn of the Dead, but I cannot think of the names of my two favorites!!!
The two were like a part 1 and part 2. The plot(s) go like this:
the government was doing some experiments back in the 50s and had these hemetically sealed canisters with bodies inside. A truck that was transporting the canisters, happens to take a sharp turn on a dark road and one or more of the canisters slide off the truck onto the side of the road.
A couple of yo-yos (who coincidentally happen to work in a medical supply house that sells body parts to universities and such) find the canisters and bring them to work. Despite warnings on the canisters, these guys open one of them and this green gas hisses out, infecting them and spreading all over the place. The body parts in the warehouse become animated, the decomposed body inside becomes animated and comes after them. Okay, you've heard enough! Anyone know the names of these two movies (the original and the sequel)?0 -
night of the comet was a good one, and all three resident evil's where great, i never did like the dawn of the dead, they almost turned me against zombie flicks

The Dawn of the Dead remake is pretty good.
I'd also add the original Resident Evil, original Dawn of the Dead, and Return of the Living Dead (the alst one for its laughs - darned funny movie).0 -
The new Robert Rodriguez movie, Planet Terror was awesome. Shaun of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead are my other to favorites. 0 -

Night of the Living Dead is the original and the best, by far.
The original Dawn of the Dead is good, but the remake is slightly better in my opinion.
Day of the Dead is a classic (they're currently remaking this one too, FWIW) and one of the most graphic American movies ever made. Gore galore.
28 Days Later put a great new spin on zombieism and updated it very well with a haunting and very dark feel.
Return of the Living Dead is a mediocre movie (in spite of what EMM thinks) but is saved by the naked red-haired punk girl.

I think I remember seeing that movie. I remember that it ends when the heros of the story find the barrel that held the corpse. They find a phone 3 on the lid to call in case of trouble. They call and wake a Col. at home in bed. He says help's on the way. Movie ends shortly afterwords with a nuke detonating overhead. Pretty realistic, as I would would think the response would be.[;)]0 -

Original Dawn of the Dead by George Romero is the best "classic" zombie flick, hands down. Its a good zombie movie with quite a funny dose of social satire thrown in. You don't have to have seen the others to like this one, and even though its 30 years old, its really not dated at all (only the haircuts don't hold up!). Sequel is good too, but not quite as sharp as the original.
Romero's remake of Night of the Living Dead is pretty good too, in fact better than the original (which was good for its time, but is kind of dated now). Its fun watching this one because while its a faithful modern remake of the original, it also "twists" some of the characters and expectations of the originals and has some fun with itself, making it good for diehard fans.
Romero's Day of the dead is OK, but not as good as the first two. As mentioned above, this one has the most gory effects of the lot, if you're into guts and blood.
The recent Romero "Land of the Dead" stinks, in my opinion, not worth seeing unless you are a diehard zombie-head. The worst of the lot, and quite a disappointment coming from Romero.
"Shawn of the Dead" is modern comedy retake on the zombie film, and suprisingly clever. Definitely worth seeing if you like the genre even a little bit.
28 days later is the best recent zombie movie (ie of the last ten years). The sequel 28 months later is good, but not as good as the first one.
I'm suprised that someone brought up "Dusk to Dawn" (a vampire movie), but not the more recent "Planet Terror" by Rob Rodriguez, an actual Zombie movie. This one was the first flick in the "Grindhouse" double feature, with the second one being "Deathproof" directed by Quentin Tarantino. Lots of gore and great soundtrack in this one.
I give the slight nod to Tarantino's film as the better of the two in the double-feature, but Planet Terror is definitely worth checking out.

1. Dawn of the Dead (original).
2. 28 days later.
3. Night of the living dead (remake).
4. Dawn of the Dead (remake).
5. Shawn of the Dead.
6. Planet Terror.

Nope used to be one of my favorite movies. I used to fantasize about the two sisters.
BTW, for whomever asked about them. They went on to have mainly TV careers; however, according to IMDB, both of them are still acting.0 -
