Newly-compiled statistics have determined the 5 most dangerous (high violent crime rates) cities in the US:
1) Detroit, MI
2) St Louis, MO
3) Flint, MI
4) Oakland, CA
5) Camden, NJ
Anybody care to hazard a guess as to why?

You can find a thousand poverty stricken areas in rural America, and you will not find high crime rates. Poverty is definitely a contributing fator, but one's values weighs heavily too. 0 -

Really if someone wants to better themselves and has a little backbone it isnt hard to do. Creating a job for yourself is rather simple..

Classic and Marc are right on. People are moving from Detroit and Flint in droves. People blame our governor, but the fact is that we aren't the arsenal of democracy any longer, and we had generations of people that worked at the factories or at businesses that depended on these factories.
I know a lot of you have never been to Detroit, so I'll try to explain it to you.
Our downtown is along the Detroit River. It is about a square mile full of skyscrapers and other large buildings. You only have to go about 3-5 blocks from the riverfront before you start seeing the huge, old, and empty office buildings. At 5:05 pm, the place is a ghost town.
We do have some small pockets of areas where you have a "night life". But you can't walk from one to the other. There is no mass transit here. You have to drive, period.
If you go a little further out, you start to get the neighborhoods. Some areas are still very good; but these few areas are surrounded by crap. Even if you live in one of the nice areas, it's still unlivable. Groceries? Dry Cleaners? Clothing? Hardware stores? Forget it. You have to leave to go to one of the suburbs. Schooling? No way. You have to send your kid to a private school.
Not too long ago, the city of Detroit and Wayne County had a rule that if you worked for the city, you must live in the city. That rule was thrown out, so now the areas in teh city that were livable are now crumbling.
The funny thing is that there are some real gems in the city. We have Wayne State University, University of Detroit, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Science Center, the Charles Wright Museum of African American History, the Red Wings (who stil play downtown), Ford Field (Lions), Comerica Park (Tigers), the waterfront, Belle Isle, but despite all that, you can't live in the (*&%ing city. It's impossible.0 -

Detroit is the only place I ever delivered to (while trucking) where while INSIDE a fenced, gated receiver warehouse dock area, I was instructed to stay INSIDE my truck unless escorted by ARMED guard to open/close the trailer doors. 0 -

We have a plant that we operate and maintain in Camden, NJ. The ladies with questionable morals who practice the worlds oldest profession line up against the fence at all hours of the day. It is not uncommon to see the local police sitting in their cars talking to them. 0 -

I know some of those places (ca, nj) have strict gun laws. Is that the common thread? Victim disarmament zones. Can joe citizen carry a pistol in michigan? Missouri? 0 -
If you have a ccw you can carry in Michigan. I would recomened it if your are going to be in the Detroit /Flint area.Myself,I`m staying out with or without a gun.I haven`t been to either place in several years. 0 -
In Missouri you don't need a permit to carry in your vehicle, but you do need a permit to carry a pistol on you. 0 -

Thats very sad Detroit used to be a fantastic place to live back in the 1940-1960s. Not a safe place after dark nowdays.

If you will look at the places in America with the highest number of crimes, and the highest rate of infant mortality, and the worst record in education, you will see that these are places with a high percentage of blacks.
If you look at areas that are tops in education, and have the lowest rates of infant mortality, and rank at the bottom in crime, you will see that they have a high percentage of whites.0 -
