    Hopefully my wife can get it from the university by may, along with the new office. should only cost 20 bucks for both. [:D] The new office looks amazing!

    I was watching a tech review on TV on Vista and advised, if your system is 2 years or older, you'd be better off buying a new computer with Vista preloaded.

    Yeah, it never ceases to amaze me how many people with tiny little amounts of RAM try to run XP and then wonder why their system is sloooow.

    there is absolutelty nothing wrong with my current OS. XP meets my needs. Why Upgrade? I'll probably need a new PC before I need a new OS.

    My system is about 2 1/2 years old. I have plenty of RAM (640 and plan on going to 1gig) and a 2.4 gig celeron. But I hate to lose all the other upgrades I have done by getting another system.

    640 is not even close to enough. The recommended amount for vista is 1 Gb. If you remember, XP's recommended amount was 256 Mb. Bless the soul that tries to run XP with only 256 Mbs of RAM. You need at least 512. So my guess is there will be lots of moaning and groaning by some people because they have a bazillion programs running (more then 40 processes in task manager) complaining about how slow Vista is.

    I have been patiently waiting, particularly for MS Office 2007. I'll be buying a new laptop in the next 4-6 weeks. I figure I'll give them a little time to work out some of the bugs.

    No I would not. I have experienced both and I am happy with my PC and windows for what I do.

    Alot of stuff that I use will not run on anything else so I stay with it.

    If I was doing alot of buisness stuff or more graphics then maybe.

    Your celeron will crap being overclocked. Its hard to keep the heat off of the celerons. They are also very finicky when not run in spec. Unlike the pentium processors.

    most likely. Search the internet for the most clockable ones. To bad the celerons are not like the old ones, those things could be juiced up crazily. But the new ones, any voltage increase will cause problems with it. I think they did this on purpose.

    I got into over-clocking back with the P2 chips. You could save alot of money by buying the previous model chips and then overclocking them to the point that they were actually faster than the chips people were buying at premium dollar.

    I never did this one like I said because I didn't know how the celeron would hold up to it. But I think I can order a pentium chip for not too much money,overclock it and with going to 2 gigs of RAM make this system screem![:D]

    XP is satisfactory, and I can't figure out why on earth I'd want to upgrade to Vista. Vista is graphically nicer. XP is stable, and having a better graphical interface is completely unimportant to me.

    XP is in no danger of going by the wayside, and software will continue to be available for at least a few years. By that time, I'll have upgraded my computer and it'll come preloaded with Vista.

    I have a free download from DELL for the new laptop but I am not in the mood to learn a new operating system until I know I really need one. I am just getting used to the XP

    shouldn't it be called crapgrade, not upgrade?
    I'll save my RAM and viedo memory for my games and use XP [:D]

    I have the option for the free upgrade but I'm ambivalent about it. XP is stable. Vista is supposed to be a memory hog and might still be buggy.

    Sounds like an open and shut case, and yet I'm still thinking of doing it.

    There will be bugs/service packs/security holes and then there are the driver problems with you hardware.

    Anyone who gets it early, get ready for the fun stuff.

    Lets wait for the posts of how it sucks.

    Not predicting the future, but all the stuff I have (scanner, printers, sound card and video card) all have new Vista drivers available -- and not in beta. That's presuming they will all work!

    I ran the Vista adviser on my new Dell and it all comes up OK -- we'll see when the upgrade arrives.

    I can't remember what I put in it. I have 2 slots and I left the original in and added 1 more stick. 640 is what my system says it has on the info screen.

    I added the one about 2 years ago and I can hardly remember what I did yesterday![:D]
