Question for Mond & HappyNanoq - Gun laws
What do you guys have to do to buy guns in your country? Also, are there stores that display guns for sale?

First of all.. the stores.
You can find guns and ammo(shotguns and rifles) at clothes stores, convenience stores, sport-shops and regular hunting stores - or anywhere where the store stocks guns and ammo.
Anyone can buy the guns - ANYONE - there really is no age limit, but people preferably needs to be 16 years of age. No law - just preferably.
You don't need to be registered, don't need a permit, don't need a background check, don't need ..... you just buy what you want, and if you have something to sell - you do just that.
There is no hunting permit to buy guns - there is a hunting permit - to hunt. That's it.
You don't need the permit to buy guns.
As for laws here :
We have two definitions on two different type hunters.
1: Full time hunter - one who earns 50%+ through hunting.
2: Spare time hunter - one who earms 50%+ through something else.
There are a few restrictions here.:
First - No handguns unless you work near or in a wildlife reservation for polarbears. Handguns are only for personal protection in those areas.
Second - Fullautos are banned.! Period.
They were legal up until the late 80's and a lot of AK's, G3's, M1 carbine, M1 Garand, M14, M4, M16's were sold by the bunch.
Third - semiautos are restricted to full time hunters.
Any manually loaded guns - like boltaction, lever-action, break open, pump action or so - are legal to anyone.
Silencers/Supressors are legal to anyone.
There is only ONE caliber restriction.
Equal to 20mm or bigger - that is considered a cannon and needs permit.
There is only ONE restriction for projectiles.
Explosive tipped needs permit.
Otherwise - if you want armour piercing - you buy that.
If you want tracers - you buy that.
If you want incendiary - you buy that.
If you want....... - you buy that.
So if 7 year old little Jack wants a TRG-42 .338 cal rifle with armour piercing bullets and a supressor mounted - he buys that. That is perfectly legal.
Here - guns are tools.

No restrictions on sale..... Nice...
Im guessing there is no open/concealed carry if you cant even have a handgun, I doubt you can walk around with a sawed off shotgun, right?
But all the drugs and protstitues may make up for the handgun and semi-auto limits.... if you have the money for those kind of things, chances are you'll forget about wanting that G3,M14,AK, 1911, glock, etc0 -

There's a difference in wanting it - or needing it/having a use for it.
Personally I don't know anyone who'd want a handgun - or even need it.
There are a few illegal guns on the market, but we don't have organized crime as such. and there are rarely incidents with weapons here.
I actually did walk through the local foodshop with a Mossberg 835 on my back - noone even gave me a second glance.
Kind of like your WalMart overthere..
I walked around for 20 minutes or so, after getting home from a hunt.
Walked from the boat and towards my home, forgot I had my shotgun on my back - went in and bought what I neeed.
It was only halfways home, when I realised I was "carrying".
Noone stopped me, noone spoke up, noone complained - not even the guards.
It's commonplace to see people walk around with rifles or shotguns.
So yes - it's perfectly legal to carry legal guns anywhere.
Open carry, concealed carry.
As for the sawed off shotgun - there's a minimum size.
30cm barrel (about a foot) and 60cm's overall (about 2 foot)0 -

No handguns in the UK,rifle and shotguns are two different licenses.When I was growing in South Londonin in the 40s and 50s there were no restrictions.Now it is very restrictive and far more gun crime. 0 -
Those laws I stated - are for Greenland only.
In Denmark, you can buy anything but fullauto.
Handguns only through a gunclub.
In order to hunt or own guns for hunting - you have to obtain a huntingpermit.
That is a written and a practical test.
It's about twice as tough to take the danish huntingpermit - as it is getting a driverslicence. And Denmark is pretty strict there.
The danish driverslicence is valid is just about any other country.
As for the general opinion of the US ??!!??
Oh I don't know - I guess most are split between thinking you're all some gung-ho wild west wannabes who carry guns for fun - while the rest sees it from other angles.
I can't get an exact bearing on what people think of the US, it varies from time to time - depending on what news we get.0 -
Oh, and yeah, we do catch some news through the internet - as well as US news or tv channels.
We have CNN for one.
So yes, we do see there is some violence and do see there might be a need for guns for personal protection.
I guess organized crime is far far less here than many other places.
Not due to guns being so readily obtainable, but because Greenland have undergone a fast transition from the old inuit-style to modern societys - in about 50 years.
That's a lot of catching up to do such a short time.
But yes, we do have organized crime, but in small societys like this - it's relatively easy to investigate or hear about who's who and where to get what.
The capitol of Greenland, Nuuk where I live, only has 15.800 people.
There is about 56.000 people in the whole of Greenland.
In 17 cities and 56 smaller towns.
One slipup in organized crime - and the whole town knows.0
