I knew a Game Warden several years ago----it was not an easy job then.

I classify California Game Wardens and other Fish and Game people as either Conservation or Ecology. I would agree that the Conservation people are underpaid. The Ecology people are way over paid.

We have had one good DNR officer here.
He would go anywhere after anyone at any time when it came to game violators. He was rough, tough and never lost a case when he went to trail. His efforts showed too. The big game animal population exploded when he took the job. For the poachers had no where to hide. He wore out more than his fair share of Jeeps doing his job. Every criminal hated him when he was here and everyone wished that he would come back after he left. He once followed a couple of guys all the way to NY city who were poaching deer here and taking them to NY to sale. Busted the guys here and got the NY connection taken down.

Learned something about the WV DNR. They DO NOT do not need a search warrant to search your property, car or home. All they need is a good reason to do it.

Yup. Good GW's are a rare find nowadays. Most don't know the dangerous end of a gun and can only be seen sitting at the boat launch or writing tickets for no whistle in your boat.
Knew one a few years back that was VERY GOOD at his job. Was friendly and fair with Joe citizen and as mean and tuff as a Pitt Bull on the outlaws. He had everyones respect. Now the Dept. is hiring robots to ride around in trucks.

Just read an article today that a Calif Game warden shot and killed a guy up in northern cal. First time that has happened in the history of that agency.

The dead guy was from Dana Point Ca. Very close to the city I live in.
