Need a recommendation: Internet Faxing
I'm looking into sending and receiving faxes via internet and email. Does anyone have any recommendations? Right now I would go with "send2fax" but I'm open to recommendations.

I use them all the time - they are all the same - pick the cheapest, 0 -
I use trustfax (www.trustfax.com), and have for about a year. At the time, they were the cheapest I could find. Not sure if they still are. I'm fairly well satisfied with trustfax. Their page counting is by the minute, not by the actual page, and they charge me for more pages than I actually send and receive. 0 -
I am pissed about not being able to send a fax from my computer or multi-purpose printer, over my DSL line.
So, now if I have to send one, I go down tho the Ace hardware store - 5 miles - and pay them a buck a page.
Still would like to send them from home, like I could pre-DSL.

doug what printer model and make do u have, lets make sure your printer can send them first. some all in ones aren't true all in ones, some can do all the other stuff but can't send a fax. 0 -

doesn't fax, you do have a 3210 right? it just does scanning, copying, and printing0 -
If you have a scanner...
It's easier to scan directly as PDF-file - and just Email it.

oh i misunderstood. however are you saving it in the right format, some places want a certain format before sending. i never tried one of those internet fax places but its a guess. Also how do u give them the page(s), by e-mail, uploading, or what 0 -

I'm accustomed to doing it directly from the computer.

If you are only sending the occassional fax, you can find internet fax services that will send pages very cheaply, even for free. If you want to both send and receive faxes, sign up with an internet fax service (myfax.com, extremefax.com, trustfax.com, etc.) and they will assign you a fax number to receive faxes. When someone sends you a fax to that number, you get an email notifying you, and you open the fax as a pdf document. Or, you can go to their website, enter your account, and see your received and sent faxes.
To send a fax, you save it as a pdf or scan it and save as a pdf. You can download a good pdf conversion program (PDF redirect) for free here: http://www.exp-systems.com/PDFreDirect/Downloads.htm?1
It installs as a printer driver. If you are in Word, WordPerfect, Internet Explorer, etc., you print to the pdf program instead of your actual printer. It creates a pdf version of your document or page.
I gave up my fax phone line a year ago, and have used trustfax since. Even my basic phone line was something like $25 a month. Now, I don't even run up $5 every months in trustfax fees. Trustfax assigned me a toll-free fax number, so it doesn't cost anyone anything to send me a fax. Trustfax has plans ranging from $2.50 to $20.00 a month, depending on volume. I find that I am sending and receiving fewer and fewer faxes as time goes by, as I use email more and more.0 -

Doug,.......didn't see anymore of this until now.
Been working at night lately.
I use Word 2000,......go to File, then Send To, and select fax recipient.
You may have to set up the Microsoft fax software, but a wizard should appear somewhere along the way.
I also have an All-in-one printer, that has a stand alone fax that will work outside of the computer, or I can initiate the computer software to fax through the printer
If your printer will scan, the HP software should have ability to fax from a scan, but I am not familiar with your model.

Here is an all in one,.......similar to mine, but mine is not made any longer. It has a built in dial pad. Any with that pad can act as a stand alone fax machine, and as you can see, they are real cheap.
Check at Staples, or Office Depot, if you have them in your area. Heck I guess Wally world would even have them, if you can't get any of the above suggestions to work!
Edit: Doug I just read the online manual for your printer,......seems it does not have the capability in the software, to fax from a scan.0 -

After doing a little research...
trustfax looks like the way to go IF the page count is less than 150 per year. send2fax looks better for higher volume users (150+per month). send2fax also specifically states that the service is HIPPA compliant, can't find any HIPPA info on trustfax.
I will be using this service mostly to receive RFQ, bid and contract documents. Most of these will be MORE than 100 pages each but the frequency is the question. Once a month is he goal but it might take a year to get to that.0 -
Why worry about sending a FAX? Everybody has an email address these days. Just email them with the document as an attachment?

Doctors, hospitals, and attorneys are often hesitant to give one their eMail address.
Also, there are some documents and graphic images that are not readily converted to an eMail format, or acceptable in such a format.

I'm using fax occasionally, so I don't want to pay for it. My favorites are www.faxzero.com to send a fax and www.faxsv.com to receive. There I don't need to subscribe at all. 0 -

Fax-card... or standard modem.
Usually, there's a fax-program included in a modem package. Just check the box.
Or alternatively, you can find a fax-program at www.download.com0
