Been diving around Cortez Banks, San Clemente Island, San Nicholas Island, and Santa Barbara Island. There is good lobster diving at San Nick and Santa Barbara Island.

There is a great lobster cave at Santa Barbara Island you could drive a truck into.

Yeh.... We are getting some warm weather now. I can usually see Catalina from just down the street, but a hill blocks my view from my house.

I love to fly over there for buffalo burgers once a month or so. Any of you who live in So Cal want to join me sometime, your more than welcome.

I have only dove Catalina and San Clemente, not the other channel islands, maybe one of these days.

It is up in the 80's all over SoCal today. It is a bit cooler here in Newport Beach, which is about 26 miles away from Catalina.

Flying my Piper Colt over to Catalina was always a trip. Coming into the runway and wondering if you were going to get it right, or go short and into the cliff. One knows how landing on a carrier deck must be like- except Catalina doesn't pitch and dive in the ocean.

Try Cortez Banks if you get the chance.

I flew over once in a Champ. The runway is so steep than there was almost no runout after touching down. Taking off uphill with two people is not very easy either. I still have the certificate that you can buy after you land.

Certificate of navigation Santa Catalina Island Airport in the sky.

My Father once told me he "lost his thrill" with an actress on Catalina Island. Damn, didn't top pops on that one![:D]

Hangfire..... I eat at the airport cafe... out on the patio when its warm. Great view and sometimes there are buffalo to watch.

Ray B.... Yeh, landing there does take all your attention. Coming in on Rwy 22 your landing on a slight uphill grade, buts its not as bad as some say. I usually get off on one of the first 2 of the 3 exits.

Hell, the runway is 3,000ft long. Thats longer than the one I land on at John Wayne.
