yep

a friend i know works there, said they can not call the police, but they have to call there top LP who is over about 15+ stores. then they will make the call to police.
time line to get a hold of police
5mins-30+Min's they may have to leave a voicemail if the LP doesn't pick up (remember these people are in charge of about 15+ stores.
OK what did they take? couple of Min's,
OK, do u have a description, another few Min's.
do u know what they took, another few Min's
OK let me think, another few Min's, in all it can take an hr, by then they could be another state or another town scott free.
oh but wait, they mark up the tools anywhere from 50%-200%+. so they make there money back0 -
The store would be liable if the crook got hurt somehow by the employee. Worse yet the employee could get shot or stabbed. Most big stores have thier own people that are trained in loss prevention and security. 0 -

In my line of work Retail management, we used to be able to chase tackle and bet up theifs, now we are not alound to case them out of the building. We had one guy pull a gun on a 19 year old kid that work for us while trying to get the licence plate number. Nothing in my store is worth mine or some body else life. We do what we can but I am not going to get killed over a 250.00 dollar dewalt drill.
Joker there is no where near 50% mark up in tools0 -
Yeah it's that way with both Lowe's and Home Depot. It's a huge liability for them if an employee gets hurt or killed and or the thief getting hurt. Then they get sued. It's alot cheaper to let them take it. Sad but true. 0 -

yes there is. if you think a store marks anything up only 20% your mistaken, not saying all items are 50%+ high, but there is stuff in HD and any store for that matter that get marked up awhole lot. Thats why stores could care less like HD, they make there money back0 -
That reminds me of an incident I had w/HD a few weeks ago.
We had a severe t-storm that blew a transformer feeding my house.
When power came back, my central AC had a blown fuse.
So, I go to the local HD store. As I was walking in, the guy at the door says "sorry, we're closed". The store was full of shoppers. I looked at my watch, it was 9:02pm.
I told him it was an emergency, told him I knew exactly where to find the fuse, it will only take a minute. He says "sorry, we're closed". Well, I can't be without A/C so I just walked in, went to the fuse section.
As I was walking to the register, two goons stopped me. They were the "security detail". I explained my situation. They preceded to give me a rash of BS, like I was a criminal. They told me next time I wouldn't be so lucky.
I used the self-serve register, paid, and as I was walking out, the goons and the store manager were waiting for me.
Manager starts to give me the same BS. I politely showed him my receipt, stamped 9:12...12 mins. past closing. I pointed out all the shoppers to no avail. He told me next time I pull a stunt like that, he'd call the cops, have me arrested for trespassing.
I was floored, started to get my blood pressure up. I just walked out before I lost my cool and got busted.
In hindsight, I should've ask for his name and written corporate headquarters. That was no way to treat a customer.
Sorry for the long rant.0 -

You should have just shoplifted the item. You would have been treated better.0 -

If any employee of the store injuries someone, be it a customer or a shop lifter couldn't the injuried party then turn around and sue that store? I think they're more scared of being sued than of whatever lost they'll take on stolen merchandise [V].0 -
DOLFAN, That story just pissed me off! I can't believe they gave you such a hard time and wouldn't even let you in the store at 9:02. It's called customer service! What is wrong with these employee's? You should have called corporate! Mannnn, that really irritates me.[:(!] 0 -

I'D STILL WRITE THEM AND TELL THEM WHAT HAPPENED0 -
Its easy to see the problem here, its gotten so sue crazy in this Country that not only right and wrong doesnt matter but one cant enforce the law on their own premises. I think its really sad that its gotten this bad in the US. The greatest Country in the world, no wonder the crime rate is so high. They used to cut peoples hands off when caught stealing, and to top that they didnt have to even pay their medical bill.[V] 0
