Sks question

I recently bought an SKS, kinda by accident.

I have ZERO knowledge of these rifles. So, I'd appreciate it if anyone could give me any information about the one I have.

The metal parts seem to be recently refinished and the bayonet looks brand new.

The wood is dinged up, but I'd guess normal wear. The handguard wood and numerals don't match the stock.

This is engraved on the barrel:

    MDL 59/66 YUGO 7.62X39
    C.A.I. Georgia VT.

Please enlighten me, if you can.

    Thank you.

    Doug

This local guy has an SKS for sale, looks to be in really nice condition overall. Nice wood stock, has the bayonet, the sling, and the finish isn't beat to crap, and like I said it doesn't look too bad. He wants $250 for the SKS, a 30 rd. magazine, a 10 rd. magazine, and a 5 rd. magazine, and he's also throwing in 500 rds. of ammo. Is this a good deal for today's prices? I'm thinking about trying to get him down to $200, and then going from there. Any input is appreciated, Thanks.

I was comparing my Norinco SKS to my uncle's Norinco SKS, and I found a difference and am wondering if anybody can explain. The barrel on his is smooth, however the barrel on mine is rough (looks and feels like a bunch of little lines around the circumference of the barrel) in spots (between the gas block and handguard and between the gas block and front sight). Any explanation? Is it an unfinished barrel or does it have a purpose?

Was the SKS ever made in a full auto version?

Got a questions guys.....bought a yugo sks a while back. It came w/ a norinco rear housing w/ a scope. I really don't want a scope on the gun and would much rather fire it w/ iron sights. I tried to take the pin out of the rear housing to remove the new housing. It wouldn't come out and I am wondering if I am dissambling it incorrectly. I would like to buy a new/used rear housing to install instead of the one that is scope mountable. Also how do I tell what model it is. Underneath the bayonet it says Yugo sks and a few other things but not the model #. Thanks for any input.

Did you rotate the pin? As far as I know they all diassemble the same.

yes I did rotate the pin, but I have a feeling I have to take the whole thing apart from the stock and then disassemble the housing.

I've never had to. In fact I start w/the receiver housing. Does it rotate easily? Will it pull out at all? I'd probably try to drive it out from the other side w/a punch.
But make sure it's in the right position. I'd almost bet someone has put a recoil buffer in it that has it in a bind.

You may have to use a punch but be gentle or you will bend the pin. Good Luck!
