I currently have a Marlin 917V and am looking at picking up a 17HMR for my wife to use. How accurate are the Ruger 77/17 rifles? She likes the weight and feel of the synthethic 77/17.

    Thanks in advance everyone.

Was out at the gun club last night and a guy wlaked in with a Ruger rifle. It had a walnut stock and a matted barrel. The cal was 06. It was such a beautiful rifle that I think I need to get one. Problem is that all of the walnut stocked rifles on Rugers web site have polished blueing rather than matted ones. I'm thinking it might be a discontinued model? Any ideas which one it might be?

    Edit: It was a Hawkeye.

Cant speak for the .17 however if it is as good as the 77/hornet or the 77 Mk II .243 target rifle, then you have a winner..[:D]

I have several Ruger rifles including the .17HMR Bull Barrel and all of my M-77 Rifles are great shooters. I also have a Savage stainless .17 HMR and its pin point accurate. Maybe more so than the Ruger? However Ive used the Savage alot more, most groundhogs Ive killed were all dead on head shots. I found out unlike my centerfire varmit rifles shots to the body usually end up with them running into their holes and dieing. I like 100% clean kills thats why I limit my shots with it to the head only. Good Luck!!!
