My antelope hunt (pix)
Just sharing a few pix of my antelope hunt today. I got to within 30 yards to a herd of ~30 around 0730ish this morning but the the lead doe alerted the herd. I could not get a shot because they were all bunch up and dropped down into a coulee. I am guessing the big buck was probably a 17-incher.
Around 1430ish I shot this 15"/15"7/8 with 180g .300WM. He was within 200 yards and (running) quartering in. Shot the left shoulder and exited stomach area (surprisingly not too bad of a mess).
Taken by my taxidermist. I am having a shoulder mount done.
Added: Yielded 54 lbs of meat [^]

Congratulations FEENIX.......nice shot. [:)][:)] That's one game animal that I have yet to harvest. Actually, I have never had the opportunity to hunt them. I think it's too late for me now. I don't think I could put a satisfactory enough sneak on them that would fool one with his 7X vision. Maybe in the next life.......[:)][:)]

I know what you mean, I hunted AZ and NM. Around here (at least where I hunt) they feed on wheat and alfalfa.0 -
nice goat...feenix......we have some around here and season is going now but forgot to put in for Lic had a herd of 70 or so around my place last fall....haven't hunted them for near 20 years.....and IMHO they taste better than deer....our also feed on winter wheat,alfalfa and grass.... 0 -

I would have to say that pronghorn is probably the tastiest, melt in your mouth meat I know of.[^] And it only cost us about $30 a pound.[:(] 0 -

This goat cost me $1.75/pound (including processing/vacuum packed, gas, license, and ammo) less 8 hours afield (no scouting time).
Now, the shoulder mount is a different story. My guesstimate is $12.00/pound.
If I didn't bagged it on opening day, it very well could be up their in gas alone.0 -

There's a lot of goats in that area and the .30-06 will do just fine. Depending on the pressure, they tend to be skittish after the second week of the season. I will be in Whitefish this coming weekend, unfortunately, not hunting related. My son is competing in a swim meet.

You did very well indeed! We had gas, motel, restuarant, and meat processing, plus driving back 200 miles to pick up the packaged meat. $30 is probably wildly overestimating, but it sure wasn't cheap. We are still putting in for the draws though, so it must not have been too painful.0 -

Indeed, it is not cheap. But hunting to me is more than just the game and meat, it is all about sharing the wonderful experience with family and friends - it's loads of fun and priceless. I had an aching back all day yesterday but it did not stop me [^].0 -
We got 3 of 4 on does hee in ND this weeked. They were tough to find thought.The rain and cold weather had them hunkered down pretty good. The kid with us made a really good 400 yard shot. 0 -
