"I figure if a person makes it to a ripe old age, they are indeed lucky."

    Yes, they will be......

...but you are not ripe or old at fifty! Happy Bday!

Those are kind of contradicting terms, but I'm glad you made it this far, and I hope many more "lucky" years are in your future![;)]

Thanks everyone for the B day wishes. Any overtime now I consider gravy.

Funny to me that now I see and can enjoy the simple pleasure of growing a tomato, watching (not shooting) a wild animal at play, or the sound of gentle rain on a tin roof porch.

In contrast, things I used to consider most important now seem like a cruel joke played on youth. We waste so much time and effort on foolishness on our journey through life, but I guess that's okay too. How else would we ever learn if not for it?

Maybe I was wrong Mike! Maybe you're older than your years. These are the true signs of it!

Stay safe and keep adding the years. Life gets better with age as long as you have your health, and if you loose it, sometimes you can find it again![:D]

I'm 36 and just starting to realize what you say is very true. A friend from college dies of a stroke to years ago. He left behind a couple little boys. Another friend from died last year in an auto accident caused by a guy full of rage as he chased an ex lover. Two weeks ago another friend from high school lost his wife in an auto accident.

I am beginning to realizing how fortunate it is to miss these tragedies and appreciate every day for just what it is.

Want a guarantee? Buy a used car. THEY come with guarantees. LIFE does not. Congrats on your birthday, and for figuring out some of the really IMPORTANT stuff in life. And remember- 50 is NOT old (for a tree!)[:p]

I wish I could feel more appreciative for the many times luck kept me on the right side of the grass. Instead, wrong turns in life seem to
outweigh gratitude for the good fortune of survival.
