Blood light for finding blood trails
Not Bud Light ! Has anybody ever used one of them, ive seen them for sale and the idea is great but do they work ?

Yep, blood tracking lights are a gimmick. Blacklights do a fine job for a fraction of the cost.0 -
I'm an old timer I guess. In my younger days I found a Coleman lantern worked better than anything else. White gas fueled. 0 -
I always take my Coleman lantern. Haven't ever had to use it to track with but it's good to have just in case. 0 -

I have blood trailed plenty of deer at night using a regular flashlight.
A little drop of blood seems to give off a glow when hit with the beam of a flashlight, I was always amazed at how easy it was to see a blood drop at night.
If blood shows up better with one of these special lights I would be willing to try it, if it wasn't too expensive.0 -

It's probabably not much use where you are, but scorpion hunters use black lights. They glow pretty brightly.0 -
I bought one for $50 and Im not very happy with it. It does show blood, but it also shows anything else red and the leaves in my area have many red colorings when I am using it. If theres enough blood where you can easily see it, you dont need the light. With a speck here and there I cannot justify it. It is no utopia. 0 -
You can get a blacklight LED insert for your maglight for scorpion huning. I have never used it for blood trails, but if blood is bioluminescent that would work fine and costs under $20 last time I looked. 0 -
Thanks guys, you saved me some money. I have a blacklight that i use for checking old patches so the next time i cut myself with a old bayonet i will use it to see if im bleeding. 0 -

Jacob a .300 mag doesn't kill them any deader if you hit them in the hoof. Shot placement counts. 0 -
I have a blood lense for my Surefire and it works close up, but not for tracking game. I've always been a contractor, so my hands were usually beat up pretty good. I took the flashlight in a closet and tried it out on my hands when I first got and thought "Wow, this thing is going to be great for tracking deer"...but it doesn't work from that far away. I don't know if a larger/brighter flashlight would work better or not... 0 -
I was trained in blood tracking by a real good bowhunter. He taught me that the sign is on the ground, for the most part, and the tracker needs to be on the ground to see it.
So get on your hands and knees and get to work. I have tracked a deer for 100 yards on my hands and knees, with only a tiny blood drop every five feet. It was in the dark, and it took an hour, but I got that deer!
A person who declares a deer "lost" but who has not gotten down on their hands and knees looking for sign does not know what they are doing.
Nothing to be ashamed of, I didn't know how to track properly, either, until the old bowhunter taught me how.0
