Romanian AK-47
A friend just stopped by to show me his new AK-47 and I couldn't believe how sloppy the magazine fit when it was in the reciever. When I bought my Romanian AK years back. My magazines fit alot tighter than his. Could it be a USA made magazine that is causing it?

could be. 0 -
I know of two types of romanian ak's, the SAR's and the WASR's. I never owned one but could the SAR be a better model and thats what you happen to have, and he may have a wasr which I never hear good things about. 0 -
oh, and while browsing a forum dedicated to ak's a while back I did read a topic on magazines and I remember someone mentioned never to buy US made mags. 0 -
Did the receiver have "dimples" on either side of the mag well? Current Romanian rifles were made with receivers that lacked the dimples. These dimples are what keep the magazine steady. Older Romanian rifles have the dimples.
(EDIT) To expand on the above post -
"WASR" rifles do not have the dimples.
"SAR" rifles have the dimples.0 -
It's a WASR. 0 -
are yours and his both wasr's or is it just his. 0 -
I sold mine. It was Romanian. Can't remember if it was a WASR. 0 -
Yes the US mag do fit sloppy specially when they are empty. You put a couple of rounds in there and the spring tension tightens them up. Or a proper sized and placed washer with some JB Weld can fixer right up. 0 -

I have 5 WASR10s and all are perfect. Those other models are for those people who think you have to spend money to get a good gun when just a little but of inspection can net you a great find on the cheap. I beat the hell out of mine so paying extra money for a display piece is wasted money to me.
I find that my WASRs like the fit of the Bulgarian waffle mags the best. All my bakelites and steel mags have the wobble but none have ever had a FTE or FTF.0 -
We are bringing his AK with us to the Gun Show tomorrow morning. I told him we would look for some different magazines to see how well they fit. 0 -
I use all Romanian Mags with my SAR-1 and never have had a problem. It is possible the feeding lips may be bent and causing the problem. If thats the case they can usually be fixed. Good Luck! 0
