COONS..in my back yard...looting the dam cat food...that I dispise, you understand.
Dam things came running to the light. sitting up and BEGGING like a dog..I assume telling me by god thee wasn't enough for ALL to share in the largese...and by god get some MORE food out there...

Hedog makes a good case for the furry bandits...but after gazing upon the 'hot tub' scene..I find myself strangely more willing to spare the beasts NOW ....unless the fish is a personal pet....[:D]

I think maybeso Hedog gave me the incentice to set out the live trap and see in I can resettle those coons 3 miles West..on the banks of a nice creek...
I don't see it as a big favor to give these cats food but otherwise neglect them. They'll likely end up loaded with fleas, ticks and who knows maybe other nasty parasites and dieases. It might be nicer to just shoot them from the start (and save your cat food too) instead of slowly dragging it out.0 -
We had a problem with raccoons knocking over getting into the trash at our house. The city charges for removal of unwanted pests, unless it is a cat. We put hot pepper rub on the trash and the raccoons have stopped going for it. One we found face down in the pond drowned. Now if we could only do something about the neighbor's cats which roam everywhere leaving their messes. 0 -

Lifes' a bitch..then you die.
The sum total is..I give them food. I have absolutely no intension of gathering them up to spend money on all the nonsense people do for their 'pets'..these are NOT pets for me.

Highball can you trap the cats or catch them if still tame and take them to the city/county animal control or Animal Human where maybe they will find a home or be humanly euthanized? We just did that with a cat that moved into our yard. Very nice and pretty cat, but just dumped. We finally realized she was not a neighborhood cat when she shed her long fir and we could almost see her ribs. We fed her for a month to get her in decent shape and took her to Animal Human. We already have two indoors and that is all.
Re: relocating the coons. I agree with Matwor, take them three miles and they will be home in 2 nights. We do not have a lot of data, but what we have indicates relocating is not a kindness, either animals return home or they die. You have to assume the habitat is at carrying capactiy for any given species and adding one or 5 more is one or 5 too many and shomething has to give. It will almost always be the new guy that looses out. If you can just stop providing food, they will make it on their own and stop coming.0 -

Exactly why you should just shoot them. If they were wild you wouldn't need to feed them, and you'd probably never see them (they may still have some dieases but you can't do much about that in wild beasts).0 -
When I use to live in the city.. I would catch squirrels in the havahart trap. Relocate them to a woods where a retired deputy sheriff friend of mine lives. This went on for years. I must have taken a three hundred out of our yard in the trap.. One day a DNR officer shows up to go hunting while the friend and I are in the yard drinking tea and talking. We hear shooting.. lots of shooting. He comes back and says he has never seen so many squirrels.. and has his limit. We start laughing and I eventually tell him why his hunting was so good. 0 -
