Wolfowitz to resign over girlfriend's job
Well, nice to know some people don't like favoritism. Wolfowitz is loosing a big buck job because he arranged a big buck job for his girlfriend:

With subsequent raises, it eventually rose to $193,590. The panel concluded that the salary increase Riza received "at Mr. Wolfowitz's direction was in excess of the range" allowed under bank rules."

First he blamed the ethics panel for not giving the raise to his girlfriend in the first place and THEN he blamed his girlfriend!

Originally they wanted her moved to a different position due to a conflict of interest (her being Wolfie's girlfriend) so he moved her to a different position (lower scale) but gave her one heck of a raise. I need to find a girlfriend at work that can do that for me. 0 -
Wolfowitz is one of George Bush's pet screw-ups. His disastrous work in planning the Iraq war was rewarded by Bush by being given the Presidency of the World Bank. In that role, Wolfowitz' goal was to crack down on corruption in countries that wanted World Bank assistance. Now, he is being fired for being corrupt himself, in giving his girlfriend a huge raise.
It is astonishing to watch Bush reward, rather than punish, incompetence. Such as giving the Medal of Freedom to Tenent, the intelligence director who blew 9-11. The guy should have been fired.
Here is a rundown on Wolfowitz' work on the Iraq War:
Wolfowitz will be long remembered for his ridicule of Army Gen. Eric Shinseki's estimate that it would take some hundreds of thousands of troops to pacify and occupy postwar Iraq. Shinseki was "wildly off the mark," Wolfowitz said.
For his departure from the Rumsfeld-Wolfowitz script, Shinseki was forced into early retirement as Army chief of staff.
Wolfowitz also predicted that the U.S. troops would be greeted with "bouquets" of flowers from grateful Iraqis.
Wolfowitz, who escaped service in the Vietnam War with student deferments, told the Press Club audience quite accurately, referring to the Iraq war: "The real judgment of this is going to be the historical one."0
