WOW that's a BIG fish
This bad boy was caught on Rainy lake!!
This is the new record in Canada. He caught it on Rainy Lake.
Check this thing out.. The last picture is unbelievable!
This guy (in the photos below), was fishing and caught a 36" Pike -
as he was reeling it in, a 56" Pike tried to eat it!!!!! He brought
them both in on the same net.
Awesome catch on a river in Canada - 55lbs- 56 inches.

    Ha, Rainy Lake, I'm from International Falls, I never caught a Pike that big though.

    That fish was netted and not caught. It is quite visible that the smaller pike was the only one caught legally.

    I have seen this picture many times, each with a different story and place.

    The record would never stand if he netted it

    We have rules here in Ontario

    Heck man, I have only ever caught one pike, and it was only 20 inches. I saw a 40 incher floating dead in East harbor off Lake Erie once, and saw a guy pull a 36 incher out from the same area so they're down there, just never hooked one. I did hook into a Muskie once about that size (I'd guess around 50 inches but it could have been 40 or 60, I never landed him) while Walleye fishing on Lake Erie with a large crankbait; totally inappropriate gear, I got him up to the surface but he just busted the line about 10 feet out from the boat. Legal or not, I'm impressed!

    If you land a fish with only a hotdog on a sting and no hook. Is that not a legally caught fish? Does there have to be a hook involved to make it legal. maybe the big one didnt swollow the hook but he sure took the 36 incher as bait.

    Ive reeld in a fish or two that didnt have a hook set.

    stupid question, just curious to your thoughts dacee[:)]

    The bigger fish wasn't fair caught, so would be ineligible for the record, at least in Texas.

    Is a pike good to eat, or are they just fun to catch?

    Ive never fished for pike, but looking at the size of that whopper, and the size of the little one, and

    looking at the size of the pole next to him and the fact he got both in a net, Im guessing not much fight, but id deffintly like to catch one[:D].

    They are very good to eat once you get by the "Y" bones.

    I fished Rainy this summer for a week...great lake, caught lots of fish, none that huge though. Seen those pics before, that's an amazing fish no matter how many times I see it.

    Pike are good to eat bit they have a pantload of 'lil pin bones all thru them.I'm thinking swimming in that lake would be a risky pastime [:)]

    Several years back i caught 3 small northern pike in a row out of a stream here in missouri, and boy was i shocked. I don't know if it's something conservation put in there, or what...

    I gotta question if he got both fish into a (hoop) net. They are pretty tough to net when they get that big unless you are using a cradle. And if you do get them into a hoop net thre will likely be little left of it after a fish that size gets through with it.

    I do love fishing for pike though. They slam the bait and make explosive runs. If they just didn't SLIME you.

    Nunn...fun to catch...Hehe as much fun as catching a log and hauling it in...Possible to eat ? Well if u take off the skin and wash the meat in a mix of vinegar and water they say its more eateable.....
    However if u smoke them they're delicious but u get tired of eating smoked pike really fast.

    What a whopper!
    I have caught a lot of pike up in Ontario. They call them "snakes."
    They are ok to eat, but I will let the snake go if I can catch a Walleye.
