You can have prostate problems at 29. You should go in and get a PSA test done and the "no hands" test. Lack of insurance will suck though.

Try cutting out ALL caffein and exercise a little more. That in itself may make the problem go away.

    Thanks guys.

What are some other symptoms of diabetes to look for?

I dont exercise but have a very physical job. Lobsterfishing, and in my offtime spend alot of time with a chainsaw in my hands.

I do drink alot of soft drinks, always diet but they do have caffeine and I have started making Iced Coffee to take on the boat and started really having problems yesterday after that. So I will try getting rid of ALL caffeine.

    Thanks

And where did you get your medical degree to be making a self-diagnosis?

If you are experiencing symptoms of any kind you need to have it checked out. At 29 the odds are in your favor but don't mess around.

    See a physician ASAP.

[8D]-Yea Ruger, you HAVE to see a doc, he will give you the finger test to see if the Prostate IS enlarged and order a standard blood test--

--the blood test will give a PSA numerical reading probably from 1 to 8 and that alone doesn't mean a lot. The PSA test has to be taken over a 6mo/1 yr period to register the PSA numerical number CHANGE--

--if the No. increases then you PROBABLY have an enlarging Prostate--age doesn't matter--

--Money spent know could SAVE YOUR LIFE--Check it out--

    --GOOD LUCK---JIMBO

Got to agree with the others. Bite the bullet and pay for a doctor's visit. You're talking about your health. Don't let it go without getting checked out by a professional.

    Ruger,
Take it from one who went thru this last year. Do not wait. It is possible (maybe probable) the proper drugs will shrink the gland. Looking back now, I can see it was coming on me for twenty-five years. My body had always been able to shrug off maladies, this time it couldn't. In the middle of a root canal in the dentist chair it completely shut off. After emergency room treatment, the doctors put me on Avadart and three months later it hadn't changed. The other drug (a stronger drug) is Flomax. My brother-in-law is taking this and results are spotty at best.

I went ahead and had the surgical procedure done and everything turned out fine. Going now is like turning a bucket of water upside down. Your condition sounds like it would be treatable, you have youth going for you.

But please, get in and have it diagnosed. You'll be glad you did.

You almost certainly have prostate problems. I have been having the same problems that you describe since I was 39.
Saw palmetto does work, and that is what I use. Head to the health food store and give it a try; it takes a week or two to be effective.
Go to the doc if you must, I went to 5 urologists and they didn't do much for me.
That PSA test, like many of the tests the MD has for you, costs money and is not accurate.
Besides caffeine, I hate to tell you this, but drinking alcohol is rough on the prostate.

You need a diagnosis before anything else or taking this board's advice. You need a finger in your bottom, and a urinalysis at your family physician's office.

Look, enlarged prostrate is a misnomer. It is really much more like judging the size of the hole in a donut. Takes experience and hands on checking. Make an appointment with a doctor, maybe have a complete physical.

I experienced a prostate issue at 29 and, as silly as it sounds, didn't really want to go to the doc for fear of what I might learn. It turned out to be just an infection and was easily treated.

Get insurance BEFORE you get it checked. If you get it checked, have a problem, and then try to get insurance on a pre-existing condition, you are SOL.

Last month I had the same problem. It got to the point that I was up half the night. Went to the Doc and it turned out to be an infection which took two courses of anti-biotics to cure.

Do not wait! Make an appointment with your doctor right now to insure that you do not end up with a much more serious problem.
The cost now is nothing compared to the cost of loss of function that can happen without treatment.

+1 on getting a complete physical ASAP.

Best test for prostate is an experienced Doc, feeling with his finger.

    Don't gamble with your health.

If you can afford all that beer why DON'T you have insurance?

us55840 what she said was, "you have a big one." And then you went to a male doctor for a second opinion?

It could be a lot of things. One is an infection that could leave you sterile or imptoent. Another one is cancer that if found early is easy to cure. If you wait a few months I might be able to get some Ruger Guns real cheap.

Never let the cost of a check up stop you. Call the local hospital and tell them what is up with the money issue. Ask to set up a pay plan so you can get checked out.

The symptoms you have are not common in younger men that is why it is imperative to get it checked out NOW not in two months.

If you happen to be an illegal alien just go to the best doctor in town everything is free for them.

Yea you need to see a doc, but if your not gonna go, here is my .02. The prostate is very hard for antibiotics to penetrate. Its about the size of a walnut, and almost as dense. Most likely the doctor will put you on a Flouroquinolone (Cipro, levaquin, etc.) for a month or longer. These are strong antibiotics that target the specific bacteria that can cause your problem. I am not a MD and dont pretend to be one, but I was in the medical field for 20+ years. You need a doctor and a blood test along with a finger, but if you are'nt going to do that for whatever reason, then good luck. Also cancer at your age is very uncommon.

He doesn't need a blood test.
He needs to give a good history, then
He needs a finger and a UA.

he needs a cbc with diff. platelets and urinalysis. along with that. A good primary MD will order nothing less. Would you not try and rule out an underlying problem?

Don`t rule out infection just because you`ve had it so long.I had an infection when I was in my 30s .I was having symptoms for months before I finally saw a doctor. It took 1 1/2 years to clear it up and it still came back a couple times a year for several more years.

    BS, you are wrong.
I have been teaching and practicing for 25 years.
Do not order a test unless it will change your plans and a CBC, diff and platelets do not change anything.
Look in UpToDate, Cochrane or the NEJM, you will NOT find those tests recommended.
He has probably got chronic prostatitis and your previous quinolone recommendation is likely correct.

Still just needs a finger and a UA.

Your probably right. But since you dont have a medical history on him and you know he doesnt visit a doctor, why would you not check for underlying disease like diabetes, thyroid, etc...? Sounds like your tired of insurance co. telling you how to practice ....now you got some GB yahoo playing doctor. I said I am no MD but Ive seen many things missed because an ER or quick care doctor sent the patient out the door with antibiotics and never checks anything else. He needs a Primary care doc and a good once over...I stand firm with my GB,Phd.[^]

Notice I originally said a "good history" was needed.

The UA will show if he is spilling sugar.
No thyroid disease causes prostate symptoms.
You may be smart but you are ignorant in this arena.

I had my Prostate out 2 months
ago and I have no problem starting.
Stopping is a problem, and there are
    other issues that percentage wise
    are in your favor only
before the operation.Take care of your
condition now cause once it's gone
    other things go with it!
