This wouldn't be GB if we didn't give you a hard time[;)] ...should make for some good eatin'. Get someone to show you how to gut a deer and you'll be in business! I would if I lived closer...

I was going to give you some static about it but I shot one a few years ago that didn't make 50 pounds field dressed. It was good eaten.
I may have to shoot another one just like it.[:D]

gitrdone, once we talk you into gutting your deer, next I want to talk you into processing your own meat.
I have cut up dozens of them. It is not too hard, I get a real feeling of satisfaction from it.
You can send off to Cabelas for a pretty good grinder for about a hundred bucks, and make your own sausage and burger.

I don't hunt horns, I hunt meat. I like taking Doe's because the meat is better. I kill them as big and fat as I can find.[^]

To critisize a mans kill is childish, more so when you don't have one of your own.[}:)]

Those are the deer best kept at hunting camp for eating purposes. But to eat a porpose?? Didn't think they were good eating.

so were are the pics of the deer you shot. my father in law always goes with two deer tags one for a buck for the burger and jerky and they a doe tag for a smaller doe and he has and probably will again shoot a yearling for the steaks on them. not my preference but if he's happy with it who am i to judge

No, don't use a band saw. You can do the entire operation with a knife.
I gut and skin the deer. Then I remove the hams, shoulders, backstraps and inside straps.
I wrap the meat in plastic and put in in the refrigerator.
Or, I put the meat in a big cooler with a couple gallons of water and ten pounds of ice. I dissolve a cupful of salt in the water. Leave it in the ice salt water for three days, it will draw a lot of the blood from the meat.
Leaving in the refrigerator, lots of the blood will drain out.
With the meat nice and cold, after three or four days, I cut up steaks from the hams. The backstraps make butterfly steaks. The shoulders and other scraps make burger and sausage.
You can disconnect the hooves from the hams with a knife, but it is easier with a handsaw, or Sawzall.
