Thought I got a coyote.
Was siting next to a tree when a couple does come bouncing by. I noticed they were looking back so naturally I assumed something was on their trail hoping that something was a buck. Nope not a buck but a big coyote.When he get about 15 yards out I let him have it with the 41 mag. Plop one dead coyote falls over. I was in no hurry so I sat ther for about three or four minutes before I decide to go over and pick him up. Just as I start to get up he jumps straight up in the air all four feet moving and tail spinning.I have never seen a yote move so fast. There was a little blood and come cut hair where he had fallen. Best I can figure is that I hit him high and grazed his spine knocking him out for a bit. I suppose when he came to he thought "what the heck?" I couldnt help but sit there and laugh.

I made that same exact shot on a deer one time. I was 30 yards away with a muzzleloader, fired for the middle of the neck. The deer dropped like it was poleaxed.
I sat there for about a minute, looking at the cloud of thin blue smoke, the dead buck, and patting myself on the back for being such a good hunter. I was NOT reloading.
All of a sudden, the deer jumped up and ran away as though it was uninjured.
I could hit a quarter at that range, I could not understand it.
I went to investigate, there was a one inch grape vine five feet in front of where the deer had been, it was cut in two. The bullet deflected high, and just grazed the top of the neck, knocking the deer out for a minute.
There were 3 drops of blood on the ground. I searched for that deer for 3 hours, and for 3 hours each on the next two days. Nothing. I am convinced that the deer lived.0
