Is there any common sense with some people?
...two nights ago while on duty, I receive a call that a woman has her car stuck in the snow and is out of gas. Dispatch also informs me that she called AAA and was waiting for the wrecker. When they tell me where the female is, I advise dispatch that that road is not plowed and during this time of the year, it is a snowmobile trail.
Dispatch stated the woman told them the road was plowed - sorry, I know better after spending nearly 35 years running these mountains.
Before I reached the mt road, they called back and stated that a friend had showed up and brought gas with them. In the meantime, I had dispatch call the towing company and advise them if they did not have a 4x4, they would not reach them. They agreed with me!
Meanwhile, I am on the mt. road and have gone beyond the county line and still have not located them. After about an additional 1.5 miles, there are 3 peaople walking the road.
The female and her bo are in a Chevy Monte Carlo, with the car stuck sideways on the road and the forntend buried into the 14 inches of unpacked snow. When I ask her why they were out here, she said they thought the road was plowed. I advised her the tracks she was seeing were from snowmobiles packing the trail down. Their friend had also showed up driving a Ford Escort and is having a hard time getting out. I manage to backup about 1/2 mile and turn my 4x4 Chevy Suburban cruiser in a camp driveway with some difficulty.
The people are now in the Escort and manage to overheat the engine plus got it stuck in the soft snow. Now 2 vehicles are stuck and three unhappy people when I tell them their tow bills may exceed $400.
Two hours later, they were back home thanks to a 4x4. She said she would stay on plowed roads...wonder how she will tell one from the other?

Just how much cents do you really need 100 cents makes a buck and that ll get you somewhere 0 -
Perhaps rescue services and cops are doing a disservice to the country as a whole?
What would happen if nature was allowed to take it's natural course?
What would happen is the terminally stupid would perish (along with a few posters), victims of their own folly. The frontier used to take care of that for us, but now that it has all been civilized and ER's proliferate, the idiotic are surviving in ever greater numbers.[xx(][}:)]0 -

Not anymore. Around here, a buck won't even get you a half gallon of gas. It MIGHT buy you a 12 oz can of soda.0 -
