Gas Question

Well when gas was 80-90cents a gallon, the gas pumped pretty quick. Well now that gas has gone up it takes forever. i have a four banger which holds around 14 gallons and it took forever. So can the gas pumps not pump that fast or what?

    I've noticed the pumps are a lot slower now, too. Maybe somebody here knows why. Probably some added safety feature.

    I think gas tank filler necks are smaller than they used to be. Pumping too fast will make the nozzle think that the tank is full and keep kicking out.

    Years ago on a ski trip we stopped for gas and the station had long lines and it took a very long time to fill up, like 5 minutes, when I went in to pay the cashier said that it was because the filters needed changed and they didn't have new ones yet.

    If you notice it at all stations then this may not be it.

    Or,

    I think they may have slowed them down some to make it easier to stop a a certain $ amount.

    it has to pump slower computer cant ring up the dollars that fast, use to only count $10-15 now has to count $80-120 and account for every drop of that gold crap,[:D] i dont know just a thought[:p]

    I don't know but have noticed it is slower. At one gas station a few years ago gas was about $3/gallon and I started to pump, took my time and cleaned my windshield and it was only up to $6 on the pump. After I stood there a couple of min longer I only had another gallon. I said screw them and went on my way. Too slow for me.

    been told when that happens the pump has caught air or something. was told to stop the flow wait 5 SEC and start again sometimes it works

    Just watch the $$$ on the pump, it goes fast to me...[:(]

    I noticed that too. maybe it's because they want you to think you're getting more, so you don't feel like you're getting ripped off. watch they get fast again when the price goes down.

    I think you DO get more if you pump slowly. Gas froths pretty well when pumped and pumping slowly allows you to cram more into the tank without topping off. That said who cares about the last 6 oz.....so I refuel 10 miles sooner. Big deal. I too have noticed it though.

    After getting gas today I think it is that the dollar amount only rings up "X" fast, the more "X" is the less GPM's.
