Christopher Kizer, age 17, was killed the first of the week while hog hunting with two of his friends. They had surrounded a hog and his friend shot it in the head with a 22. The bullet glanced off and hit Chris in the chest killing him. The funeral was this morning. I had known him since he was born. He was a good kid that everybody liked.

This is surely a tragic accident. Hopefully, it will be a lesson to those who "surrounded" the hog, and to anyone learning the details about this incident, and save other folks from injury or death in the future. Anyone who is thinking about pointing a loaded firearm, or firing a round when someone is slightly to their left or right front, much less when folks are positioned in a circular type manner that the word "surrounded" brings to mind is being negligent, and is a danger to all concerned.

POST DIDNT SAY ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE KID DIDN'T LIVE.

I'M SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE CHILD'S EARLY DEMISE DUE TO A TRAGIC ACCIDENT.

THERE, DOES THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY ?

I was once (innocently) surrounded on foot by about 8 or 9 LEOs, who had drawn and cocked handguns and a couple of shotguns.

I always wondered what would have happened if they had started to let fly - how many officers would get hit.

I really feel bad for the boy and his loved ones. Prayers sent.

That's really sad. Seeing a kid grow up, and go out so young.
And you post so infrequently, to hear from you now with sad news. Well, you've got support from plenty of people here you've been communicating with for several years, even if they do not all post and say so.

Who would have thought a .22 could make it through a rib cage and kill you, after glancing off hog hide? Surely not the kids. A nasty chain of events all around.

A L shaped ambush works well if all of the participants observe left and right limits of fire.

Ain't never figured out how to do fields of fire in a circular ambush.

"circular" ambush, must be performed in a bowl/canyon type terrain, where all the "ambushees" are on lower ground and all "ambushers" are firing down into the kill zone[;)]

That is terrible. It's always devastating when someone loses thier life, but it's even worse when it is a young person. Prayers sent from KY.

What a freak accident. I am very sorry to hear of this young man's death.
It is not surprising to me that the little .22 had the power to bounce of a hog's skull and still kill someone. The .22 is a vicious man killer.
Remember, Reagan was hit by a .22 ricochet. The pistol round glanced off of a car window and entered Reagan's chest. The slug had mushroomed to about the size and shape of a dime, and stopped 1/2 inch from a big artery in Reagan's chest. If the little slug had sliced that artery, AMF.
