How to call Police
HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU' RE OLD AND DON'T MOVE FAST ANYMORE.
George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which
she could see from the bedroom window.
George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that
there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said "no". Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.
George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police
again. "Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now cause I've just shot them all." Then he hung up.
Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Sad but true. At a grain elevator in the bad part of Fort Worth I learned you don't call the police and say "There's a guy out there, and we think he has a gun." Police don't show up for about 30 minutes.
We were dumping wheat trucks 24 hours. At the end of the block there was a carport. SOmeone was on the back side of the carport with a laser pointing it at the guy running the truck probe. Probably a neighbor getting tired of all the noise.
This was back in '95 before laser pointers were common and for sale at every other other gas station. We felt it was more likely a laser sights. It was also a bad part of town and we were conscious of our surroundings.
I felt much safer the next week running the trippers and scales at the top of the elevator.
Of course 99% of the truck drivers probably had a handgun, and they were are friends. This was Texas, not St. Louis or Illinois.0 -

He bought a house near a grain elevator, what did he expect [?]
It's like when a city person move out to the country and then complains about the smells and the farmer/rancher has to change how they make a living at a huge expense or close up all together. [:0] [:(!] [:(]0
