Digital Camera question
When you erase pictures,what's the difference between erase all or format card? Does it hurt to format it all the time?If it doesn't hurt why do they give you a choice? Thanks

I was thinking about trading up on a digital camera. I have one now that is about three years old, 3 megapixels, but I want a camera that will take movies as well as still photos. Any recommendations? Does anyone make a movie camera that will take still shots also?

Looking for some reccomendations on a high quality, yet affordable digital camera. We have a decent lower-end Kodak that has served us well, but with both of us getting the opportunity to go on a possible "once in a lifetime trip" we would like to upgrade and get something that takes a little higher quality pictures. Not quite sure what we want to spend yet, so all reccomendations are welcome. Thanks,

Can anybody recomend a good digital camera for less than $250? I had that Sony Cybershot in mind, but don't know if there is something better out there.

Since there are more experts on more subjects on this board then anywhere else on Earth, I have a question. Santa brought me a digital camera. It's a FujiFilm A210, 3.2 pixel, 3X zoom. I am concerned about a little statement on the box in fine writing that says, "Made especially for Window XP".....I have Windows 98. Do you think that will be a problem and do you think the camera will work with Windows 98? No where else in the literature does it say anything about working only on Windows XP. I know you guys are very knowledgable on most things and I trust your judgement. What do you think?

I am thinking about giving Travis a decent, but relatively inexpensive digital camera for Christmas. I figure if he goes overseas, he will find things to photograph.
This one looks like a decent value, and is tough and water resistant. I am not wild about the digital zoom, but you can't have everything, I reckon.
Please take a look and give your opinion, or tell me if you know of a better choice for $200 or less.

I need some SLR experts' opinions here. Quick background, I'm going to take pictures for a couple friends' wedding this summer. They have offered to pay me by putting up some money for a camera. I take pictures regularly at football, volleyball, and basketball games. I also take quite a bit of nature pictures and such.
What would be a good choice for between $600-$800? I've looked on eBay for some and I've seen a lot for pretty cheap. I've seen a bunch of Canon Rebel XT 350D. Also, I've seen a lot of Nikon's D40.
What, in your opinion, would be the best value less than $900 for the camera and two lenses. I'd like to get one lens about 18-70 and another one 55-300. Thanks!0 -

If you are looking for a pocket camera - I just bought a Nikon Coolpix S700/12.1 Megapictels/VR & ISO of 3200 with a 2.7LCD. Fit's nicely into a shirt pocket and comes with a 1 Gig flashcard.
... best $299.00 I've ever spent. I'm a Canon guy - owned more Canons than I can recall - first Nikon - and I'm impressed!

Whenever I go on trips that I want to keep quality photos of, I still take my Nikon 35mm, and then get the photos also put on CD's.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I still haven't seen a digital, even my 10mp Canon that will outdo my 30 year old Nikon.0 -
I used to say the same thing! Then I got my Nikon D70. With the exception of having a little trouble in the Range from shadow to bright light, it performs as well as my 35mm using the same lenses. That said, if you use digital, you must have a photo editing software to correct some settings. White balance is easy to change if you shoot in RAW format. It can be changed in jpg, but you are changing a fixed file, while raw is not set yet.
Anyway, one of the new Nikon D40 or better would take some nice pics in auto mode that will allow for quality 11x14 or possably 16x20 prints. Not exactly pocket camera, but will do great for your photos.

congrats on the trip to alaska .im jealous .
we use two .sort of a back up to each other .i usually run a film camera ,nikon fg with a zoom lens ,80 to 200 i think .its good for daytime wildlife or scenery shots .good thing about it no on /off switch so its always ready .takes great pics too .i also take along a small zoom lens (28-75)but dont seem to use it much .
wife job is the digital camera .she is pretty good with it .advantage here is the ability to preview and delete unnessary pics .its a sony cybershot 5 meg .i really like this cam because the batteries seem to last most of a busy day and it not so small that it is hard to use .in fact i find this one to be easy to use ..it cant hurt to take spares ,ours are also a set of rechargeables . get a big memory card,a 1-2 gig will hold 100's of pics .also we set our cam up to store 2 of each pic. one being small low quality which is good for quick viewing or emailing ,the other large which is good for pic printing .
on another note -i felt it really important to have along a video camera on a recent trip to yellowstone /teton area .well on the way there the wife dropped the thing and it broke big .we hit a wally and bought another before leaveing spearfish in sd .well when we got to the parks i really didnt use it that much .some but not near as much as i thought i needed it .looking back i kinda wasted 500 bucks .i used it more as a camera then in video .

On a trip like that, take at LEAST two cameras, and 4-5 memory cards. Don't put them all in one place, either.
