? About Shipping a Milling Machine

I figured one of the guys here might have the answer. I need to ship a milling machine (2 hp Bridgeport Size) from Connecticut to Lebanon, Missouri. Distance 1300 miles. I know I can have a freight company ship for about 1.50 per mile but I am not interested in paying that much. For me to tow it myself round trip including gas, tolls, food and lodging wouldn't be much cheaper. I was wonder about an independant trucker adding it to a load going in the same direction. Anyone had any experience in this area?

    If you can ship it for a buck and a half a mile one way, you'd better get it crated up and on the truck. That's only a dime over what I pay to a carrier that runs two trucks for me constantly for 2 months a year. If the freight company is charging you for the backhaul, you may get it done cheaper with somebody else.

    From any NE state to the midwest @ $1.50, your doing good....
    And we ship mills a lot, enough so common carriers give us 50%+ discounts.

    It's a partial, for petes sake. I don't think the rates should be full load rate. I have hauled mills and lathes, on a flatbed, tarped, I know it's been a couple of years since I've been in the office, but the last I remember 1/3 trailer space was was only 1/2 rate, like .75 mile.
    Kings Express, out of St Cloud, MN, may be able to help. They specialize in LTL freight.

    Sooooo, What did you get??!! Have you purchased it already? If not, did you swing by Holloway Industrial in Springfield and look at his used stuff?

    My point exactly, it's only a partial. About 25 sq ft. If I were to hire a truck for this one piece I could understand.

    Thats LTL, There are not many trucks running out of NE going west, we have a store in MA, to pull a machine back from there to the midwest is expensive.

    www.freightquote.com is your friend. I haven't used them lately, but used to get VERY good rates. They are a broker, so they get it at the bottom price.
