Cool Hand Luke
It was on today, and I caught part of it before Dawnie got up. Hadn't seen it in a long time. It is interesting to look at some of these old movies and see faces of actors who have since become better known.
Besides Paul Newman, George Kennedy, and Strother Martin, I spotted Dennis Hopper, J.D. Cannon, Ralph Waite, Anthony Zerbe, Harry Dean Stanton, Luke Askew, Wayne Rogers, and Joe Don Baker.
Trivia question: In what movie, made several years after Cool Hand Luke, did Luke Askew and Dennis Hopper appear together?

Anthony Zerbe was a bit player who often played bad guys in westerns. I remember seeing him on Gunsmoke a few times, and as Breed in Rooster Cogburn.
Ralph Waite played John Walton on The Waltons.
Harry Dean Stanton has been a supporting actor in a load of films and TV. Two that come to mind are The Black Marble and Red Dawn.
Strother Martin was also a supporting actor and bit player. He is probably best remembered for his role in Cool Hand Luke, but he was a ferry operator in True Grit.
George Kennedy? Airport, The Blue Knight, lots of stuff.
J.D. Cannon was the police supervisor who was always into it with Dennis Weaver in McCloud.
Wayne Rogers, Trapper John McIntire on MASH.
Joe Don Baker was Sheriff Buford Pusser in Walking Tall.
Luke Askew was in a lot of TV and movies as a bit player. All I can remember is Easy Rider.0 -
Cool Hand Luke is my favorite movie of ALL TIME. I've probably watched it 200 times. I love it.

He's not a slave. he's a prisoner in a Southern chain gang/prison camp. Winds up there for sawing the heads off parking meters. He does get beaten and shakes the bush with a string when he escapes, so it's probably the movie you saw. You must remember the "girl washing her car scene".
Always liked Morgan Woodward, played "the man with no eyes' in Cool Hand Luke and was always showing up playing heavies in Westerns.0 -

[:D]COOL HAND LUKE was also a fav. of mine i remember the hard boiled egg scene jeesh,they dont make em like that anymore i havent seen any good ones in a long time,except enemy at the gate,always liked kellys heroes,any war flick correct or not i didnt know the diff [:D] 0 -

When I think of Paul Newman, I have to think of Hombre. The scenes with Newman and Richard Boone are hard to forget. 0
