Any ideas on mounting a red dot to a 1911?
I want to mount a red dot to my 1911 pistol. I have tried the mount that replaces the right grip but found it awkward and uncomfortable to shoot. Is there any mounting system that will attach directly to the slide, and if so, will the red dot be able to handle the back and forth motion?
Thanks for any suggestions

Check Burris. New Burris catelog shows a dot sight developed for mounting on slides. May have been out for a while. I just noticed it. 0 -
If you mount a low cost laser on a slide mount it will fall apart after the first shot. That is why the grip/frame mounts are popular. Go to Brownell's web site and look around, they have a lot of different types of mounts.
Good Luck0 -
Look for a Doctor red dot that replaces the rear sight,I think Brownells has them. 0 -

Bullseye shooters have been mounting UltraDot or other scopes on the slides for years.
No problems.0
