Just discovered something about Springfield 1911s
They're not made in the US. Found the import stamp on mine today. It says, and I quote:
"Made in Brazil IMBEL"
"Made in Brazil IMBEL"

Imbel makes a fine firearm 0 -
Thanks for the reassurance Blackhorn. I'm always a little cautious about imported firearms. 0 -
tell ya something else about em that i just discovered...
no wonder they charge so much for the walnut replacement grip panels... their a beech to make without breaking that thin blank!!
am haveing to make a jig to hold them for shapeing/checkering cause in the checkering rig they snap when you have enough pressure on it to hold em!0 -

I bought a compact Springfield lightweight 45 ACP made in Brazil pistol back about 10 years ago. It was a beautiful piece of work.
It was called the "nighthawk" or something like that. Had night sights and all the bells and whistles. It hated almost all ammo except "hardball". It would spit and jam and eject shells into my forehead. I am sorry to say it was not a good experience for me.
It went back to the factory twice and even Springfield couldn't figure out how to make it feed defensive ammo. I could never get it to fire anything on a consistant basis except ball ammo.
I gave up and sold the pistol to a friend. He has never spoken to me since! I hope you have much better luck than I did.[:(]
Yours is an all steel gun and a much more recent edition and I doubt that you will have any trouble with yours.0 -

Shot off a box of the ammo I'm giving away (bought 3 boxes, have 2 left), and at least 2 out of every 7 rounds I ended up getting hit in the head by an empty case. I found it amusing, actually.0 -
I have a double stack springfield and have not had a lick of trouble with it
sorry to hear you have been having problems0 -

there was a time that Armscor (the same people who made my RIA's) was makeing the frames for Springfield. I am not sure of the years on this but it is a fact.0 -

which would you rather have your pistola made in, Brazil... or Austria? can you say g-l-o-c-k0 -
Imbel has an *excellent* reputation in the FAL world... 0 -
I believe it's just he frames that were made by Imbel--and, yes, Imbel FAL's are very well regarded.
Honestly, this wouldn't worry me.0 -
P64MAK has ir right, only the frames are forged in Brazil, the rest of the gun and all of the final fitting and assembly is done in the USA. Imbel does excellent forge work, don't think any less of the pistol because of the "made in Brazil" stamp. 0 -

For the money, you can't buy any better IMO. And the bullseyes gunsmith I went to to build a target .45 said the same thing.
When I talked with him to build a gun, he told me to get a SA.0
