Out of state auction - can't get delivery ???

I was hoping that some of you could offer some suggestions regarding a situation I'm facing. Several weeks ago, I attended an auction in another state. I'm not a dealer, so I took a copy of the license from the dealer I normally use. I contacted the auctioneer ahead of time and he said there would be no problem. So, off I went to the auction. Got my bidding number, and turned in a copy of my dealer's license. Spent more the 6K on 8 handguns. Then turned to the local dealer the auctioneer had set up to do the transfers and mailings. He charged me another $250 plus when I'd originally been told it would be $8 each plus postage. Well, it's now three weeks later and I still don't have my guns. I've called the jerk and he just keeps saying he's so busy and he's only a one man shop and he'll mail them out tomorrow. I've tried to contact the auctioneer, but there hasn't been a response so far. I worked in gunshops for more than 40 years and I know how hard it is so stick 8 guns in a box and mail them out. At this point I just don't know what to do. Make the 600 mile trip and have a face to face with this guy? Contact local police? Call ATF and report them stolen? Your thoughts (apart from not trusting anyone and avoiding out of state auctions) and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks -- Steve

    I would call the guy that has your guns and tell him if your dealer doesn't receive the guns by this friday you will be fileing with your local police and the ATF , that should get his attention,

    i would allso call the auction company and tell them that if you don't get them you will be filling a complaint against them too

    Was any part of this done via the U.S. Mail? Postal Inspectors take a dim view of mail fraud. You might contact ATF although I don't know if they get involved in sales disputes.

    That seems awful high for the transfers, Delaware Law caps all transfers at $20 each but most FFL's would do a handful for that, basically the same "deal". Why would you be paying the dealer in the other state a transfer fee anyway, the "transfer" is with your home state FFL. High postage is understandable, depending on how they're shipped ... but two boxes max next day isn't worth $250 ...

    Call your State Police liaison for the BATF, run it by him, a simple call from the authorities may speed the delivery but I wouldn't call directly to make threats.

    Just a suggestion.. Have you checked to see if indeed the auction set you up with a legitimate FFL? You can check on Gunbroker to see if he is registered here. Do you have his FFL # ? I would give the guy one more call. Tell him straight up BATFE will be visiting him real soon. Wait 3 days and if your FFL does not receive the guns get ahold of BATFE, show them your purchase documentation and file a complaint. 3 weeks is not good. I sure hope you have receipts of purchase.
