Reserve price question.
In your opinion, is it a breech of auction ettiquite to email a seller and inquire how much their reserve price is?
I've done so and had mixed results. Some sellers don't mind. And others have gotten pissy about my asking.
Personally I don't see the point in hidden secret reserves. Why make potientail buyers go on a fishing expedition to find out what your bottom dollar price is?

I think it is poor auction ettiquite to list with a reserve.
Just list the thing at the lowest price you will accept and quit playing games is how I feel about reserve auctions.
I don't have a problem asking people what their reserve is and some will tell me and some get their panties in a wad but I don't take personal when they do.0 -

I have mixed feelings. Will an auction generate more bids and a higher final price with a reserve and .01 start bid, or with a start bid of say, $200 on an item that you want at least $200 for? I mean, the end effect is the SAME after all- either someone bids $200 or they don't.
I have used reserves on occasion, and told any askers the reserve price without question. Sometimes I even state it in the auction. It is there simply as I would rather not sell if I can't get that much, and I don't care who knows the price and who doesn't.0 -
I don't even look at auctions with reserves. I don't like to play games. 0 -
Jonk why not use a starting price of $200 rather than a reserve I have to ask you about? I don't look at reserve auctions either, but I suppose if we want sellers to drop them we should e-mail and say "Hey Jonk, old buddy old pal, your reserve auction just missed me as a bidder. Had you just put an opening price of $200 on it, I would have hit the "buy it now" button, but I just won an auction from some guy in Kansas nemed Kimberkid who doesn't use reserves. Have a nice day." 0 -
I don't worry about it. I bid the max I'm willing to pay, period. If that gets beat out, fine, there's more than just one gun on my wish list, and probably more than just the one gun I bid on for sale.
If my bid doesn't reach the reserve price, fine, I didn't want to pay more than I bid to begin with.
Too many people get all caught up in the "auction" thing and end up paying a lot more than they wanted too.
It's just about self control.0 -
