New Truck Question
Well it was new when I bought it but here is the question.
It is a 1999 Ford F250 Super Duty 4X4.
Completly stock as delivered except for a K&N air filter which I just renewed and just changed oil.
Ok here is the question and pics.
Why do stock tires go for 106,000 miles and when I buy aftermarket tires they only last 25 to 30,000 miles?
Why does my (old) new truck still run perfect, smooth, like a purring kitten with the original spark plugs?
Anyone else get phenominal performance out of original equipment/

That is pretty darn impressive, are you sure you are not getting senile like me and you really put two other sets of tires on the truck but you forgot??[8D][8D] 0 -
One thing that could have helped, just a theory here. Those tires are firestone's, with the work ford and firestone do together, maybe those tires were designed specifically for the truck allowing them to last longer. 0 -
theres probably a few theories out there.
1. You just get lucky or unlucky
2. Driver dependent as well as the environment you drive.
3. Original equipment is designed especially for that vehicle, after market products as much as they claim might not be exact. Something thats off by a mm on an aftermarket product might wear on a vehicle after a while.
4. Sometimes you put new parts on an old vehicle they work optimal while rest of the vehicle works sub-par thus creating a problem between old and new, maybe the old part was working sub-par with everything else that way everything is in harmony.
5. A lot of aftermarket brands are cheap, when you go autozone and they pull a parts list and you automatically say you want the cheapest one. Thats why the maker usually stresses replacemtent parts of a certain brand.
6. When new stuff is put on, it can be put on incorrectly or things can be damaged.
Theres a lot of reasons but thats a few that I can think of.0 -

i dont know how you got 106,000 out of original tires though. Those tires look like they could have been replaced a while back though 0 -

First clean the dust off the instrument panel so we can see the numbers better [:D][:D][:D][:I][:0][:D]
I got 110,000 out of my last set of Michilen XLT radials on my Dodge. Keeping air pressures correct and doing rotations and balancing has a lot to do with tire life.0 -
I have a speedo just like that only in a 2001 and 51K miles. The trip odometer looks right too... should be down to about 1/4 tank. First set of tires lasted about 70k and then bingo.. someone put some soft rubber on second time thru. 0
