at the range on saturday

I was shooting at the range and some young guy was there with his boots bloused and had a tactical holster, high & tight, and full of piss and vinegar. This guy would NOT shut up the whole time. I think he was coast guard or something. He was a good guy, just pretty gung ho about shooting.

He was talking to anyone and everyone that would listen to him. He was mostly accurate on the things he was trying to tell folks, until he started giving advice on a guy that was going to Alaska who was asking what kind of pistol to take with him for bear protection.........(I immediately thought of my gunbroker friends haha)

He told the dude to take a .357 with him to dispatch any rogue bears......

I was a few tables down and just chuckled to myself. A few minutes later I talked to the guy he told that to. I was serious with him too, I told him if he brought a .357 for bear protection, to MAKE SURE he brought some grease with him. He raised his eyebrows and was like, "really? why?"

I told him it would make it go in easier once the bear shoved it up his ass after he shot it with a .357[:D][:D][:D]

He laughed and I told him any caliber he used had better start with a "4" if he wanted to even begin to protect himself against a bear....

    May as well throw the .357 at the bear,.......would have about the same effect.

    Agreed, the big bears require at least a 44 magnum, I think a .500 Smith would be my personal choice.

    I just charm them ol bears into giving up on the thought of attacking. Damn straight

    A little, legally short, 12 gauge folder with slugs would be my handgun of choice, if I were headed for serious bear country.

    Better to have a sore wrist, than to be food. And I doubt that it would be much heavier than a .460 or .500.

    at least to 480 is abit more controllable, never thought much about a 12 ga with slugs, But I bet that will do just fine.
