    May as well throw the .357 at the bear,.......would have about the same effect.

    Agreed, the big bears require at least a 44 magnum, I think a .500 Smith would be my personal choice.

    A little, legally short, 12 gauge folder with slugs would be my handgun of choice, if I were headed for serious bear country.

    Better to have a sore wrist, than to be food. And I doubt that it would be much heavier than a .460 or .500.

    at least to 480 is abit more controllable, never thought much about a 12 ga with slugs, But I bet that will do just fine.
