ScatterGuns
Can you really clear a room in one shot with a "scattergun choke"?
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=64671028
Item is a 18" barrel for a mossberg 500 and has a scatter gun choke on it with bead sight. The choke is made in such a manner the the shooter can clear an entire room with one shot. This item came from the estate of a friens father that was a retired US Marine, Gun Smith and a Class III dealer. It has been in storage for many years and showes some serface rust, but nothing pitting, I was able to wipe off a few specs with my hand. I accept US Postal Money Orders only and will ship to lower 48 states for $8.00

Well, sane people would be diving for cover..
I sure as heck would clear the room if somebody opened up with one.0 -
It cannot get wider than cylinder can it?
Not that I advocate being in a room when a shotgun is discharged.0 -
depends on the room?
just kidding
not unless it is a 12" wide hall way
think about it, if you spread super fast, you will have rosie size holes in you pattern after 10 yds!0 -
he dog - put some spin on it and it will spread more - use a rifled choke tube to shoot skeet sometime

Exactly. My bird gun has rifling the last 12" of the bottom barrel. It throws a 48"-54" pattern at 25 yd. Just imagine a half of sheet of plywood pattern flying thru the air .0 -
That's cheaper than this one:

Sill, that is a far cry from "clearing a room."
I can see how it might empty a room though.0 -
Given the poor condition that barrel looks to be in, I'd say it "clears the room" by exploding on the first shot, thereby scattering pellets and jagged fragments of barrel all over the place.
It may be designed to clear a room in one shot, they just didn't mention that you could only do it once.[;)][:D]0 -
Always heard it called a spreader (tulip) choke. they came standard on some of the Franchi spas. they flatten out the load and spread it horizontally. Much wider than a cylinder bore. Wicked. 0 -
also called "duckbill" a spreader choke spreads both planes, while duckbill is more hoizontal oval 0 -
that "housegun" looks like bs to me. there is a reason people like FBI use a mod choke 0 -

I emailed them to see if I can get one for a Winchester Defender. I want to see patterns of #4 3" mags at 20feet. Would this barrel be any kin to the Street Sweeper ?[:o)][:o)] 0 -
Dang!!!
Just weird...
Can anyone play one of those barrels like a trumpet?0 -

Yes it can and it does. Use a lot of spreader chokes in competition shooting.
As far as clearing a room with one shot. WELL
That depends on how big your room is.0 -

Got an answer from them.... We plan to make a video showing spread pattern comparisions up on our site but I do not know when we will get around to it. We will make a barrel for the Winchester defender
I ask if they had a barrel for the Winchester. They reply they will make one. Wonder how large this company is?0
