pipes for motorcycles
Posted a like thread not too long ago but its worth raising again. Best pipes for sound, tone, And non blueing and something for you very experienced hands wehich sound better 2 inch or 3 inch . I mean that 3 inch cobras will sound like 3 inch hard chromes but which makes that CRACK sound and brand (in other words the cheaper pipes tend to be the ones that blue) determines quality...Any opinion appreciated. Imgetting pipes soon on my Honda VTX 1300

My next door neighbor has a 1300 Honda. He runs a set of Cobra pipes. They are a little on the loud side but not bad, kind of a relavnt thing I guess, what might be loud for me might not be for you.
Wax the pipes after you get them on and before you fire it up. Double wall pipes will not, well they shouldn't, blue.0 -

I believe the Vance and Hines are the best sounding pipes for Honda's. They cost a bit more but they don't have the "tinny" sound to them like the Cobra pipes do.
As for bluing and popping, that has to do with the air/fuel mixture. All pipe manufacturers instruct the purchaser to install the proper jets for carburetor bikes or the proper chip for fuel injected bikes.0 -
Sweet! Another X owner! I ride an 1800. The Vance & Hines Big Shots are by far the BEST pipes you can put on your bike for sound and performance. The only problem with getting a good answer to your question is the fact that sound is subjective......what sounds good to me, might not sound good to you. I have a VTX 1800 and a 1300. The 1300 has modified stock pipes on it and sounds AWESOME.

Well, have fun and all, but please keep it quiet. What with things that can't be quiet (some trucks, trains, sirens, etc.) I have noticed that our environment is getting more and more noisy. I don't think anyone really wants that.
BTW, I own and ride a Yamaha V-max. A big, powerful and fast motorcycle. At one time it was the most powerful and fastest motorcyle that could be purchased from a factory. It has stock pipes and does not make excessive noise.

I love the 4-into-1 Vance & Hines Megaphone on my 1978 GS1000. It sounds a little like a modern sportbike, but not too ricey. It's definitely quieter than the straight pipes I had on it before.

I am a fan of most of the Vance & Hines products and have the Big Shot Staggered Pipes on my Harley. They are a double wall pipe so blueing will never show.
Harleys run hot and you are always going to have blueing on the header pipe. But with the V&H double pipe you will never see the blue.
they add quite a bit of HP to the a stock Harley. V&H offers a EFI fuelpak that you can add to the stock computer and you can reset your EFI to V&H chart settings for your bike and your pipes.
The pipes are loud but sound sweet on the highway. Not cool in the neighborhood. "TR" would have his 12 gauge up your butt in a heartbeat if you wandered into his neighborhood by mistake.0 -
any feedback on the 2" or 3" size and I was told to stay away from vance and hines because the mounts corrode but any feed back on this issue is appreciated as well. as far as modifying my stock pipes..already thought of that but if i get aftermarket pipes my dealer will honor my extended warranty because i will still have the factory pipes and jets if honda wants proof of anything but if i modify my factory pipes then i void my warranty... its just a matter of grinding off the chrome guards and drilling out the spot welds and then re-tacking the chrome guards back on 0 -
Honda will honor your warranty regardless(sp) of pipes. If your local dealer is telling you different, find another dealer.
Here is a great website that has all the info you will ever need about your X. It is free to join and it is ran by a guy named Hal that ownes Honda Direct Line. Lots of modification How Tos. Never let the dealer work on your bike, Most of them are idiots when it comes to the X.
