Looking for a logical solution
Yesterday morning I stepped out on the deck to speak on the phone and I smelled propane fuel or something similar in the air. I wondered if it could be the dog food plant that was about 3 mile from me. Then I left in my truck to run an errand. Neighbor up the road who drives a tractor/trailer rig has a rig sitting in his driveway. It is a tanker truck of some kind. There is also another trailer with a tank on it. Is it normal to have tractor/ trailers in residential areas that may be hazardous ? I am not sure it came from there but these trailers have all kind of stickers on the ends of them.

Is there a local ordinance regulating the parking of such vehicles in a residential zone? We don't allow the parking of trailers, or trucks with trailers, or anything over 25 feet long in a residential zone. Call the local PD and check.
The trailers have placards? If so, you can look up the numbers in the hazmat book and find out what's on the trailer. You may even be able to look it up online.0 -

I don't know how they handle it in Egypt, but it's generally a zoning violation to store a commercial vehicle in a residential area in the US. Not always something the police get into. If you suspect a hazardous condition don't hesitate to make some calls - you might check with the fire department. 0 -
Can't tell from this distance whether they are pressure tanks. We handled all sorts of cargo in the port, and there were some that always stank: Odorant (the stuff they add to natural gas to make it stink so you know there is a leak)- seems that they can drip an incredibly small amount of the stuff while filling the tanks, and you will always want to be upwind. This stuff is not shipped in pressure tanks. Might be what you are smelling. The MSDBs on it list it as non-toxic.
Another one that was odoriffic: Tallow/renderings from meat packing operations. Could be tallow.
Those are NOT garlic or Onion Loads, but those are stinky too, and the Garlic especially, can fool some people to think there is a gas leak.0 -
Man let the trucker alone, we all know the bullcrap he puts up with on the road like noone wanting him on the same piece of highway as them not to mention the revenue rangers backed by the media telling you about them killer trucks [}:)] Let him have some piece and quiet on his time off. I know when my nighbors complained about me parking my truck (with no trailer) in my driveway I went out and fired it up and let them listen to that C-15 rattle all night, they shut up and let me alone after a couple of those nights. 0 -
That sounds swell Pa, glad you are not my neighbor. I am certainly sympathetic to truckers, have run with and broken bread with a bunch of them over the years, but that entitles them to no slack when it comes to parking a load of manure in the neighborhood. Ain't neighborly. 0 -

The repetitive overnight parking of commercial type vehicles shall not be allowed as an accessory activity to a residential use only through compliance with the following restrictions, or through approppriate waivers from protected property owners, ot through a variance from the Board of Zoning Appeals . The parking of any vehicle shall not violate the vision clearance requirements of this ordinance. There is also NO grandfathering for any existing violations of this restrictions.
1. Allowed without any restrictions:
pickup 2 door
Pickup 4 door
Pickup/truck 6 wheels ( dual rear wheels )
2. Allowed if parked completely off the right of way:
Small van or mini van used commercially ( ie. name on side , no windows)
Tour van
Privately owned ambulances
recreational vehicle and accessories
School bus
3. Allowed if parked beyond any setback lines imposed by this ordinance.
Large step van
4. Allowed if completely screened from the road and all surrounding properties:
Tow truck or standard wrecker
car carrier ( flat bed tilt )
Glass carrier
Tour minibus
Tractor trailer rig
Tractor trailer- cab only
Tractor trailer - trailer only
Dump truck
Garbage truck
Large Van/truck- moving van
Flatbed truck- single chassis
Flatbed truck- tractor trailer
Bucket truck
Trailers with commercial materials
Such accessories shall not include any of the following:
The repetitive overnight parking of the following commercial type vehicles as an accessory activity to a residential use. Since these activities are prohibited a waiver or variance is not allowed as a method of relief from these restrictions nor are there any grandfathering provisions for any existing violatins
Full size tour bus
Any vehicle hauling hazardous materials ( e.g. pesticides , flammable liquids/ gases )
Tanker truck
Backhoe
Motor grader, front end loader, or other earthmoving equipment.

This guy is not my neighbor but lives up the road. What kind of a guy would park something like that in a residential area and stink up the area? I will let the zoning people deal with him. I will just anonymously give them the information and let them handle it. Can't you imagine if this were allowed a propane truck or chemical truck going in a subdivision? I live in a remote area.. but I bet the guys neighbors may take care of this. 0
