It's amazing how they can come so far out of the water and not get stuck. I'm sure it happens on occasion, but for as often and as far out as they sometimes go it is a surprise it doesn't happen more often. They can jack up a group of seals. 0 -

I think that they can still wiggle off if they do get a little stuck.
whales/dolphins are only harmed by beaching after drying out for a while, IIRC0 -

From where I sit any animal living in the wild has about 1000% command over its musculature as compared to any human.
Tie your feet and hands and lay you at mid tide and you will die slowly if the tide is incoming.

Because I wouldn't be able to get out of the surf? Because I'd drown? Or just because seals are the bad azz on the block? Which one are you implying? I need some clarification.0 -
Orca's are the only species of whale that will willingly beach themselves. They've figured out though evolution how to get themselves back into the water after they've got themselves a snack of seal. 0 -

that's probably how it is that fish evolved to go on the land. plus, other animals went from land back into the sea. (dolphin, sea snakes, and all those critters you're looking at right now) not surprising, really. it must be hungry. 0 -
I've seen these guys play with a sea lion, tossing them up in the air like rag dolls. Very awsome sight when you see it first hand. 0 -
Tangent here:
A guy I knew was on a research vessel within the arctic circle. A seal was sitting on a floating ice floe. A group of four orcas appeared and all of them oriented themselves vertically (heads out of water). All four then propelled themselves rapidly towards the ice floe, creating a large wave. The ice-floe went over; the orcas got the seal and had dinner. Pretty smart.
I know that sounds apocryphal, but I absolutely believe the guy who told me this story.0 -

I dislike seals. While spearfishing off the coast of San Diego the seals would wait till you speared a yellow-tail, then snatch the fish and head for the bottom. If you didn't have a breakaway system and a float, you lose your spear-gun or you lose your life.
I had a golf ball that I had drilled a hole in one side. When the seals came to close I would put the golf ball on the end of the spear, and shoot the seal. The seal got a bruise, and got the message.0
