Any One Live in the Cody/Powell WY area?
I may be relocating to the Cody/Powell Wy area. Any information would be helpful. Thank You. [8D]

I don't live in that area, but I do visit it as often as possible (the Cody Firearms Museum is my usual haunt[:0][:D]). I really like Cody and the surrounding area, as it is real nice country, and the people are real friendly. I would not mind owning a summer cabin somewhere in the near vicinity. 0 -
I live on the other side of the Bighorns in Sheridan. Powell is growing fast, but Cody is a way nicer place (and more expensive) to live. I go thru Powell all the time when I travel to Yellowstone. Why are you settling in Powell? School? Work? You should take a look at Sheridan...nicer weather, nicer views of the mountains!
Cody is kind of a touristy town in the summer months. People are very friendly. Where are you relocating from?0 -
Cody WY has a rodeo every night. That's all I know. I went to one once. 0 -
Bert H has it right you can spend all day in the museum and still not see it all,you cant see all the guns in one day. 0 -
Chris has some good points, but if you live Sheridan you have the Bighorns, the Mint bar and King ropes, I don't know if Ritz sporting gooods is still there?
In Cody you have the Absarokas the Bighorns and the Pryors all around you. The Shosone (North and South forks), The GreyBull, the Bighorn and The Clarks Fork, Yellowtail, Buffalo Bill resorvoir all nearby to fish, lotsa options for hunting once you become a resident, which takes a full year. Lotsa Pheasants around Powell and don't forget Jake Clarks mule days in Ralston on Fathers day weekend( yes Iwill be there for that as my boy lives between Powell and Ralston and tthere's a grandbaby due to arrive the week of mule days). Oh and about forgot short drive down to Thermop to take a dip at the star plunge or the Teepee which is fun to do when the temps crack down below 0.0 -
Ritz sporting goods closed up, we have two big gun shops now in Sheridan, a Big R store and a Rocky Mountain Sports, as well as a small shop, Little Johns Guns. 0 -

The cost of housing is going up everywhere where you can see mountains in Wyoming. My house has doubled in value just in the last four years. Beef is expensive, utilities and car insurance are reasonable, gas it at $3.09 a gallon.
The cost of living versus pay scales are very uneven, at least here in Sheridan. But it is a wonderful place to live, only 20 minutes from the mountains, all kinds of hunting, fishing and hiking. Powell is not a very big town, but it is close to Cody and you can find anything you need there.
There are many, many people from all over the country moving into Wyoming and it is driving the housing market way, way up in prices. There are still only half a million souls in the state, so if you like peace, quiet, clean air and beautiful scenery, you will enjoy Wyoming.0
