2 cycle motor question
Use a Weedeater grass trimmer. This is it's third summer of use. Runs good, starts easy, etc. Starting about last summer, I noticed a black oily substance accumulating on the plastic housing, gas tank, etc. and I have to store it sitting on paper since it leaves a black oily spot.
Is this residue from the oil mixture coming from the exhaust or what? Just not that familiar with 2-cycle motors.

yes...and don't run it at idle cutting grass run it wide azz open and burn that crap out of the muffler..the spark arrestor screen in the muffler might be getting clogged a little from deposits..remove the screen and clean it / reinstall, and whack away...Loko [:D] 0 -
That black oily stuff is unburned oil. You may be using way too much oil and you may have a dirty spark plug. Either will cause unburned oil. Tom 0 -
Run a premium 2 cycle oil at 50/1 ratio and it will stop a lot of that unburnt oil from happening. 0 -

Had a goat till it developed a black oily spot on it's side. Some Mexican bought it for 3Xs what I paid for it. Stuck him with a leaky goat but also at three times what I paid.[:D][:)][:D][:)] 0 -

Yes this is normal. You do want some of this - if not, you probably aren't using enought oil in the gas. 0
