Bulk .308 ammo
I'm looking to buy some bulk .308 ammo. Any suggestions on what brand to go with? What have you guys had good luck with? I want something that will be fairly accurate and clean burning(no military surplus or wolf ammo). Something that I can plink with or shoot varmint here and there(maybe a FMJ or HP). Was looking at the American Eagle 150 Gr. FMJ possibly. Thanks in advance,
Jon

Again your posts confuse me- you want accurate 308 ammo but yu exclude military surplus? The most accurate 308 ammo that I have was produced at the Franfort and Lake City arsenals as Match ammo. The only brass I found to equal it is Lapua, at about 10 times the price. 0 -
There are many other manufacturers that produce .308 ammo and sell it in bulk, Federal(American Eagle), Remington(UMC), and Winchester USA are few off of the top of my head. I am looking more at these. I have heard of many people using the military surplus ammo with great results, but I am not interested in that at this time.

Local dealer has almost a case of LC match 308... if interested let me know and we'll put it on auction
Edit - a year ago I would've said south african surplus, but hte price has gone insane. For the price of the SA stuff, you can buy the "canned heat" bulk stuff from georgia arms and support a small business owner. I've not shot any of their 308, but a shop in the next city over has a hard time keeping the 223 and 45 on the shelf...0 -
One of my rifles shoots South African surplus better than my handloads. Try a sampler of the stuff out there before you dismiss it. 0 -
Black hills is good stuff re-man or new. 0 -
Buy the south african battle packs if you can find it.
That is some of the best value in 308, although the price really jumped like everything else.0 -
You can not go wrong with either the Federal American Eagle or the Winchester white box 308, both are very clean, reliable and accurate. My choice of the two would be the Winchester. It is pricey, but its clean and the brass is reloadable. 0
