Dodge pickups made in Mexico?
The other day I noticed a sticker in the driver's door of my son-in-law's Dodge 2500 4x4 crew cab diesel that says "Made in Mexico".
I wasn't aware of this and neither was he.
I don't wish to start a Dodge vs. Ford vs. GM vs. Toyota or whatever debate. Are all Dodge pickups made there? Just certain models? In other words, what do you all know out there that I don't. Thank you-I appreciate it.

I think all of the Quad-Cabs are "assembled" there with parts from the US,Canada and I think some from Mexico.
My '01 standard cab was made in Warren,Michigan.[:D]

Look at the VIN. If it starts with a "1" it was made in America. If it starts with anything else, it was made somewhere else. My Chevrolet truck VIN starts with a "2" and it was made in Canada. 0 -
...some of their products have been made in Mexico since 86 that I know of. Remember the 86 Ramcharger?,...yep...After I drove mine off the show room floor...I noticed the sticker![:0]
...One of the toughest, best damn trucks I ever owned though, except for a few "minor mysterious" problems...I just could not drive past a taco stand w/o the urge to stop...and the radio kept changing itsself to music with kick-azz accordian solo's...[;)]

The diesels are made in Saltillo, Mexico and St. Louis, Missouri. Most come from Saltillo though. By the way anybody Tried out the 6.7 liter cummins yet in the new Dodges? 0 -
I do agree about the Ramcharger. I had a 89 and it would go anywhere. Then it recieved a warming over of the tranny, 4.10 gears, Superlift 5 inch lift and 35" BFG AT. The motor was a 318 TBI, the efi was pretty finicky. 0 -
Sort of a c r a p shoot. Two 01 CTD Extended Cab CTD's... One from Mexico and one from St. Louis. My 04 is from Mexico. All are made with largely North American components (Canada & US) and are merely assembled in Mexico with a limited amount of Mexican components. Having shared this, I believe that most CTD 3/4 ton and above vehicles will be assembled in Mexico.
Must be that Mexican labor is cheap enough to offset the cost of shipping parts and pieces all over the place, but there's also another reason... Dodge makes trucks larger than the 1 tonners, but doesn't offer them in the states. These share cab and running gear with the 2500's and 3500's, so it's not exactly a stretch to see why they run them on the same lines.
Quality... The Mexicans take pride in their work. I've found no real differences between the truck assembled here or there. The only thing I noticed was that the diesel exhaust from the St. Louis truck smelled like Kentucky Fried Chicken and the exhaust from the Mexican truck like re-fried beans. [;)]0 -
had a 1989 dodge ramcharger, it was made south of the border.
actually I think most of they are made down there.
I went to the local dealer,wanted to look at the 4 dr jeep.
they tired to show me the dodge line, when I made the comment about not sending my money to south of the border, he tired to tell me that thats the only way they could compete with ford and chevy.

Not so my friend! In 1989 and into the end of the first generation of CTD's, Dodge made very few vehicles compared to Ford and GM. Fewer vehicles always means a higher cost of production per unit.
Enter the very successful body change of 1994 and Dodge began to sell more vehicles than they dreamed possible. They also continued and expanded their line of larger trucks which don't enter the US market for reasons I can't say. I can see why they might wish to merely expand a production line already used to building trucks.
So the dealer was mostly correct and you were somewhat correct. No question that some of the money you spend goes south of the border. Still, it pays Mexicans to stay in Mexico and still pays North American workers to build components that will be assembled south of the border.

It's good for Mexico to have SOME work. It means less welfare sent to the Mexican Government and less illegals coming over here.
Don't know what their wages are or how many more Mexican it takes to do the same job in St. Louis, but I would have to think Mexican auto plant also employess quit a few in the area.0 -
A whole lot of the parts to assemble cars and trucks come from mexico, Hell even Harley Davidson uses head lights "Hecho in Mexico" 0 -
