my UPS truck driving BIL claims he makes 100K year. He retires at 50 because he got all the credit for time since he started as a part time truck washer in High School.0 -

UPS is most likely the #1 truck driving job in the country!
If I would have been able to go right into driving big trucks for them I would have done it in a heart beat! But with them you have to start out as a package handeler and work your way up to delivering packages in the van trucks and then you might make it to the big trucks.
They are Teamsters and have the best contract of any of the Teamsters jobs!
If your BIL started with them while he was in high school he may be able to retire before 50 depending on his Union Local and which contract was in affect when he was first hired!0 -
But they DO work their ass off.
My package arrived about 18:45. Now I can go shooting.

The guys driving the big trucks (the one on the hwy pulling the sets of doubles) don't! All they do is drive!0 -
Those guys pulling the doubles do make over 100 a year and can retire after 30 years of work. Your run of the mill delivery guy makes close to 30 dollars and hour depending on how long they have been driving new guys start out at about 19 an hour 0 -
Nothing against the drivers, but UPS has some of the worst "customer service" in the country!! Imuch prefer FedEx, USPS, etc. UPS "suits" are a bunch of jerks. [}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)][}:)]

UPS's problem is with their greedy management people with the stock options.
The drivers and hourly people are decent folks-also at the mercy of the beast.
I worked there 8 years before getting into LE. I liked my customers and they treated me like gold. I got gifts and cookies and stuff from them at Christmas. Most also gave me discounts on the stuff they sold. I would do my best to help them with their package problems.
They fired me once when some kid ran a stop sign on a main road and I hit his vehicle. It took me a union hearing and 3 weeks to get my job back. The Detroit cop offered to show up on my behalf if necessary since he knew I had done nothing wrong.
There are a lot of things that UPS knows how to do well. Taking care of it's hourly employees and customer service is not a couple of them.0
